Fujitsu Releases Software for Easy Web Application Creation

Fujitsu Limited,Fujitsu Applications, Ltd.

Tokyo, August 10, 2011

Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Applications, Ltd. today announced the launch of a software tool that makes it easy for customers to create their own web applications.

RapidWebSS has been designed mainly for office tasks managed through Microsoft® Office Excel, including simple workflow management, customer-relationship management, bid management, and trouble-ticket management, as well as providing supplemental functionality to mission-critical systems. After installing the product on a PC server, customers can create new web applications in about a half a day using familiar Excel operations. In addition, the software can flexibly accommodate changes to business process specifications after applications have already been put into use. Users of web applications produced using this software can access the applications over the Internet from their own computers to input or browse information.

As a result, business processes for which ICT use has been difficult in the past due to budgetary or operational workload constraints can now be systemized by users, thereby enabling improved business efficiency through central management of information.

Background

Companies have made some progress in systematizing their key business processes. However, for processes with constantly-changing specifications and that involve ROI or operational overhead risks, companies manage information manually using Excel in many cases. As this approach involves the exchange of Excel and other files via e-mail with a variety of different people inputting data, it can be difficult to determine the status of progress with Excel files often becoming scattered, thus making tabulation work complicated.

With these circumstances in mind, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Applications have released RapidWebSS, a software tool that makes it quick, inexpensive, and easy to develop web applications.

Product Features

1. Simple creation of web applications

RapidWebSS employs the same familiar Excel format, which is already used in many offices, to produce new documents including administrative tables, request forms, reports, and application forms. As a result, web applications can be easily generated. Once a web application has been created, the software can also flexibly accommodate necessary specification changes. Users of web applications produced using this software can access the applications over the Internet from their own computers to input or browse information.

RapidWebSS System Overview

2. Quick creation using templates

With just a copy of Excel and a PC server, a customer can create a new web application in about half a day. For essential office administration functions, application development time can be cut to only one or two hours using the provided templates. Thirteen kinds of templates are provided: travel expense reports, reimbursement reports, equipment loan request forms, survey forms, health-management sheets, daily/weekly reports, customer-relationship management, bid management, trouble-ticket management, Q&A management, meeting confirmation, schedule arrangement, and discussion boards for meetings.

3. Inexpensive to use

Anyone who knows how to use Excel can deploy and operate the software, making it inexpensive to use.

Furthermore, in addition to use by customers as an on-premise model, it can be used in a cloud environment at datacenters operated by the Fujitsu Group. Fujitsu also plans to offer the software under a SaaS model in the future.
