Fujitsu Builds New Online Ordering System for KFC Japan's Pizza Hut

Enables orders to be placed 24/7 with aim of registering two million users within three years

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, July 22, 2011

Fujitsu today announced that it received an order from Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan Ltd. to build a new online ordering system for Pizza Hut, the world's largest pizza chain, in Japan. The online ordering system is now operational at all of Pizza Hut's 360 locations across Japan.

The platform of the new system employs Fujitsu's highly reliable PRIMERGY x86 servers and Interstage middleware. The new online ordering system offers exceptional security with systems integration technology that fully leverages Fujitsu's accumulated know-how for customers in the retailing industry.

With the new system, Pizza Hut becomes the first pizza chain in Japan to accept online orders for future deliveries 24 hours a day. The new online ordering system also accepts credit card payment orders, and allows Japanese customers to use their Ponta multi-partner loyalty program point cards. Customers can also determine which meal sets offer the best value or which of their coupons would be best to use depending on what items they have ordered, using a new savings simulation feature which is scheduled to be available in early August, for high value-added service.

Moreover, with a feature that distributes coupons tailored to individual needs to each registered customer via e-mail, the new online ordering system has further enhanced Pizza Hut's personalized marketing capabilities. With online orders expected to increase, Pizza Hut will be able to deliver improved service to its customers.

Background

Through enhanced marketing measures, such as tie-ups with the Ponta loyalty points program and promotional campaigns, Pizza Hut is seeking to increase customer satisfaction. To date, the ratio of phone orders has been relatively high with the time used to take the orders being a constant issue. By upgrading and enhancing the convenience of its online ordering systems, Pizza Hut anticipates an increase in online orders, thereby reducing the time spent on phone orders and increasing operational efficiency. Furthermore, the upgraded system will enable Pizza Hut to deliver orders quickly to more customers and continue offering special deals.

From design to the provision of hardware and system configuration, the upgrading of Pizza Hut's online ordering system was handled entirely by Fujitsu.

Features of Pizza Hut's Online Ordering System

The platform of the new system employs Fujitsu's highly reliable PRIMERGY x86 servers, Interstage middleware, and IPCOM network servers. With systems integration technology that fully leverages Fujitsu's accumulated know-how for customers in the retailing industry, the new online ordering system is highly secure.

System features include:

  1. First in the industry to offer 24/7 order placements
With the new system, Pizza Hut is the first pizza chain to accept online orders for future deliveries 24 hours a day. The system will accept orders up to two months in advance. It also enables customers to place take-out orders.
  2. Allows credit card payments
The new system enables Pizza Hut to accept credit card payment orders, so customers can avoid having to pay only in cash.
  3. Ponta multi-partner loyalty program point cards can be used
Customers can use their Ponta point cards, the multi-partner loyalty program from Loyalty Marketing, Inc. They can use their accumulated points in lieu of money to make purchases.
  4. Coupons tailored to individual customers
By registering online, customers can receive customized coupons via e-mail. Through a new savings simulation feature scheduled for availability in early August, customers can determine which meal sets offer the best value or which of their coupons would be best to use depending on what items they have ordered, for high value-added service.
  5. Mobile phone operability improvements
The use of Flash on the mobile phone website has raised its visual appeal and enabled more intuitive navigation. As of June, orders can also be placed using a smartphone(1), making it even more convenient.

Through the deployment of the new system, Pizza Hut seeks to raise customer satisfaction by making online ordering convenient. At the same time, it is aiming to reach 2 million registered Internet users within three years. A higher ratio of online orders will allow Pizza Hut to further enhance its marketing capabilities with data analysis and its ability to provide customers with more customized information. Furthermore, Pizza Hut will be able to quickly deliver orders to more customers and offer information on special deals on a timely basis.
