Fujitsu Releases "Raku-Raku" Basic 3 Mobile Phone

With the press of a button, expert support staff guide users through operating procedures

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, April 15, 2011

Fujitsu today announced that its new Raku-Raku Basic 3 mobile phone will be available in Japan starting April 22, 2011, from NTT DOCOMO, Inc.

The new Raku-Raku (meaning "easy-to-use" in Japanese) Basic 3 features a special instructions button that, with a single push, connects customers to a dedicated telephone support center. The phone center can be accessed free-of-charge with expert support staff guiding the user through the mobile phone's operating procedures and other features.

Other features include a notification service which alerts the user's family members of the mobile phone's usage status, a voice delivery service for users who have difficulty writing e-mails using the keypad, and Smart Camera, which makes it possible for anybody to take beautiful photographs. Such improvements in basic functionality help enhance the Raku-Raku Phone even further in terms of user-friendliness.

Background

Since its debut with the F671i in September 2001, the Raku-Raku Phone series has been a major hit, selling over 19.3 million units as of March 2011. While it remains popular, especially with senior citizens, to provide even more high-quality services to individual users, NTT DOCOMO established dedicated phone centers in nine locations across Japan in September 2010, aimed at assisting Raku-Raku Phone users. Raku-Raku Basic 3 is equipped with a special instructions button that connects users to one of these phone centers. Even without knowing how to operate the mobile phone, users can directly connect to an expert support staff member and receive easy-to-understand instructions.

As well, the mobile phone incorporates a notification support feature(1) that automatically informs up to five designated people on the mobile phone's usage status, including information on the number of times the mobile phone has been opened and closed, the remaining battery power, as well as the distance travelled by the user. As a result, family members living afar can keep up-to-date on the status of their loved ones without worry. The Raku-Raku Phone Basic 3 also features a voice delivery service(2), which allows users to record an audio message for a recipient and send it as a voice message. These voice messages can be listened to by recipients at their convenience. As well, the sender can confirm that the message has been accessed. The feature is convenient and reassuring even for users who have difficulty using e-mail.

The Raku-Raku Phone Basic 3 is available in three colors: Gold, Navy, and Pink.

Product Features

1. Advanced 5.1-megapixel "Smart Camera"

  • Smile detector
This feature automatically trips the shutter when it detects that the subjects are smiling.
  • Automatic scene recognition
The camera automatically recognizes different scenes, such as landscapes, portraits, night scenes, and close-up shots, and changes shooting modes accordingly. It can also automatically recognize QR (quick response) codes.
  • High-sensitivity mode equivalent to ISO 12800(3)
The camera can shoot in the dark and produce bright photos without blurring.
  • Tracking focus
The tracking focus captures subjects in motion and is best-suited for photographing children and pets.

2. "Raku-Raku Site Button"

For the first time ever, Fujitsu has brought to the Raku-Raku Phone Basic series the "Raku-Raku Site Button," a feature from the Raku-Raku Phone 7 that is popular with seniors, and enables users to enjoy i-mode. By simply pressing the "Raku-Raku Site Button," users can easily access the Raku-Raku i-menu(4) in a large, easy-to-read font. Menu content consists of six major genres: news, weather, recommended sites, stock quotes, transit details, and horoscopes. Users can instantly access their favorite information whenever they choose.

3. Voice balance for easy listening

With age, it often at times becomes harder to distinguish high-pitched sounds. Based on the user's age range(5), the voice balance feature automatically accentuates the high-pitched portions of the sound of the other person's voice, making it easier to hear.

4. Simple Deco-mail® enables automatic e-mail decorations

After composing a message and selecting the Simple Deco-mail(6) menu option, users can automatically create elaborately-decorated messages.

5. Hearing aid feature

The mobile phone is equipped with a hearing aid feature that, by simply connecting a set of earphones(7) to the mobile phone, amplifies the sound volume of the surrounding environment, making it easier to hear. This feature is perfect for use when watching TV, talking with family and friends, or when it is difficult to hear.
