Fujitsu Introduces docomo PRIME series™ F-06B

- High-spec waterproof and rotating slide-screen mobile phone with a 13.2 megapixel camera capable of recording Full Hi-Vision movies -

Tokyo, June 1, 2010 — Fujitsu today announced that its new docomo PRIME series F-06B mobile phone will be available in Japan from NTT DOCOMO, Inc. beginning June 9, 2010.

The F-06B is Fujitsu's first rotating slide-screen mobile phone to be water-resistant (IPX5/IPX7/IPX8⁽¹⁾). The phone is equipped with a 13.2 megapixel camera capable of recording Full Hi-Vision⁽²⁾ movies, as well as a large, easy-to-use 3.5" touchscreen display that allows users to comfortably navigate menus and view captured photos. In addition, the F-06B features Wi-Fi tethering capability that enables it to be used as a wireless LAN access point for easily linking PCs and portable gaming devices⁽³⁾ to the Internet, as well as a full-featured electronic multimedia dictionary⁽⁴⁾ containing full versions of Kojien and other dictionaries.

The F-06B is a water-resistant mobile phone that boasts unprecedented high functionality and performance which will satisfy the needs of PRIME series users.

Background

With the release of the F-09A in June 2009, Fujitsu introduced the rotating (yoko-motion) slide screen as the latest technology in the evolution of mobile phones. As Fujitsu's first water-resistant rotating slide-screen mobile phone, the F-06B combines three different user modes—a closed touch screen mode that allows users to quickly access information, a sliding mode that gives users convenient access to the keypad that they are used to, and a dynamic horizontal-screen mode that allows users to enjoy Internet and TV contents.

To make the most of its 13.2 megapixel camera, the new mobile phone is equipped with the Milbeaut® Mobile⁽⁵⁾ image-processing engine and capable of recording Full Hi-Vision video footage (1,920×1,080 resolution) that is equivalent to videos taken by a digital video camera. In addition, the F-06B comes with a variety of useful new functions that rival those of digital cameras, including a "Best Shot Select" feature, a smooth slow-motion video recording function, and a "Wide-angle Flash" feature. The "Best Shot Select" feature captures seven continuous photographs with a single press of the shutter and automatically selects the best out of these seven captured images.

The mobile phone incorporates additional features such as a large 3.5" touchscreen display with an improved response time, Wi-Fi tethering capability that enables the phone to be used as a wireless LAN access point for easily linking PCs and portable gaming devices to the Internet, as well as a full-featured electronic multimedia dictionary that contains dictionary data from 28 different reference books (22 dictionaries + 6 sectoral search volumes), including full versions of Kojien, English-Japanese Dictionary for the General Reader, and Shin Kangorin.

The new mobile phone's design features a distinctive arc frame that, when combined with the phone's water-resistance and slim form factor, makes for a stylish end result. The F-06B is available in three colors: white, black, and cyan.

1. IPX5/7/8 water resistance
As Fujitsu's first rotating slide-screen mobile phone to be water resistant, the F-06B was designed to be functional in a wide range of situations where users do not have to care about rain or water. Because it is IPX8 compliant, the camera can be used underwater at a depth of 1.5 m.

2. 13.2 megapixel camera

• Full Hi-Vision video recording
  The camera is capable of recording Full Hi-Vision video footage (1,920×1,080 resolution), allowing users to enjoy video details with crisp clarity.
• Milbeaut® Mobile image-processing engine
  To make the most of the 13.2 megapixel camera's capabilities, the F-06B is equipped with the high-performance Milbeaut® Mobile image-processing engine, which enables users to take photographs with high-definition image quality at high-speeds. This technology helps to beautifully capture subtle patterns and minute details.
• Seven continuous shots at resolution of 13 megapixels
  By employing the CMOS camera's high-speed image processing, it is possible to take seven 13 megapixel (3,096×4,128) photographs continuously.
• "Best Shot Select"
  The camera is capable of capturing seven continuous photographs with a single press of the shutter and automatically selecting the best out of these seven captured images. When taking photographs of a person, the system will evaluate and select the best picture based on a combination of factors, including blinking, blurring, and the intensity of the subject's smile, allowing users to save the best picture. In addition, users can also opt to select their preferred pictures manually.
• Smooth slow-motion video recording⁽⁶⁾
  Users can enjoy slow-motion video recording, which records videos at 1/4 the regular speed. Using this technology, it is possible to record one second of footage to create a four-second movie.
• "Wide-angle Flash"
  The flash employs a wide-angle superluminescent LED that helps to illuminate the surroundings at wide angle when shooting in dark places, such as at night or inside rooms.
• Easy blog and SNS⁽⁷⁾ posting
  After taking a picture, users can access posting sites while in picture preview mode, allowing them to easily upload or send the selected image to blogs and SNS sites.

3. Large 3.5" touchscreen display
Improvements to the touchscreen's response speed allow it to respond smoothly and quickly to touch commands. Users can also input commands using multiple fingers, making the phone's operations intuitive and convenient.

4. Wi-Fi compatibility
By turning the F-06B into a Wi-Fi access point (base station), users can connect a wireless LAN-compatible PC or portable gaming device to the Internet at their convenience. In addition, because the mobile phone is AOSS⁽⁸⁾ compatible, it can be easily connected to external devices.

When connecting to a wireless LAN access point in client-mode, the F-06B can access the Internet using its full-featured browser at speeds of up to 54Mbps⁽⁹⁾. Furthermore, its compatibility with AOSS and Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) allow for easy configuration for access point connections.

5. Full-featured electronic multimedia dictionary
The F-06B is equipped with a full-featured electronic multimedia dictionary that contains dictionary data from 28 different reference books (22 dictionaries + 6 sectoral search volumes), including full versions of Kojien, English-Japanese Dictionary for the General Reader, and Shin Kangorin. Due to of its multimedia capabilities, users can double-check the results of their word searches through videos and sound files. When using the foreign language conversation dictionary, users can play foreign language sound bites of example sentences they have searched for in Japanese, making it useful for international travel.

6. Fun e-mail assistance features

• E-mail scheduling and automatic reply
  The F-06B includes an e-mail scheduling feature, which automatically sends e-mails at a designated date and time, as well as an automatic reply feature, which automatically replies when an incoming call or e-mail is received from a person designated in the mobile phone's e-mail settings. Users can choose between three kinds of automatic reply messages, and the message content can also be edited.
• New iWnn® text input system
  The phone uses iWnn predictive text technology that can predict both English and Japanese text input. After inputting an initial letter, users can narrow down the remaining word options by pressing the right key to select each additional letter, making text input easier to use.
• Decome-Anime® and Deco-mail Pictograms®
  The phone comes preinstalled with 50 types of Decome-Anime® and Decome® templates, as well as 1,330 kinds of Deco-mail Pictograms®. In addition, Deco-mail Pictograms® are compatible with the predictive text features and remain in the user's input history.

7. FM transmitter capability
The F-06B can broadcast sound from its music player or one-segment TV tuner as an FM signal. Using the FM radio of an automobile or home stereo system, users can easily enjoy music at any time.

Glossary and Notes

1 IPX5/ IPX7/IPX8:

The IPX5 designation indicates that the mobile phone can normally function after being sprayed with water from a nozzle with a diameter of 6.3 mm at a rate of 12.5 liters per minute from a distance of approximately 3m for a period of at least 3 minutes. The IPX7 designation indicates that the phone can normally function after being immersed in room-temperature tap water to a depth of 1 m for 30 minutes. The IPX8 designation, in the case of the F-06B, indicates that the phone normally functions after being immersed in room-temperature tap water to a depth of 1.5 m for 30 minutes, and that the camera can also function while being underwater for 30 minutes.

2 Full Hi-Vision:

To save full hi-vision-sized video recordings, please use a microSD™ or microSDHC™ card (Class 4 or above is recommended, sold separately). If the recommended equipment is not used, there is a possibility that frames will be dropped or that users will be unable to record or play video.

3 Portable gaming devices:

Compatible devices include Nintendo DS®, PlayStation® Portable.

4 Multimedia dictionary:

The multimedia dictionary data are provided in the DVD included in the mobile phone package. To access this data, the dictionary data from the DVD must be saved on a microSD™ card (sold separately) or a microSDHC™ card (sold separately) using a PC. To save the entire dictionary stored on the DVD, it is recommended that there be at least 2GB of free recording space on the microSD™ card or microSDHC™ card.

5 Milbeaut® Mobile:

An image-processing LSI for mobile phone use, which succeeded the technology of the image-processing engine "Milbeaut®" used for digital cameras.

6 Smooth slow-motion video recording:

The recording has to be a QVGA-sized (320×240) recording, and audio will not be recorded.

7 SNS:

8 AOSS:

AirStation One-Touch Secure System, a system developed by Buffalo, Inc. that enables wireless LANs to be easily set up.
