Fujitsu Begins Operations of SaaS Online Delivery Site for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, June 01, 2010

Fujitsu today announced that it has assumed operations of a SaaS online delivery site from the Japan Research Institute of New Systems of Society. The SaaS online delivery site, known as J-SaaS, is a web services platform built by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry during FY2008 and FY2009, in its project to improve the SaaS application infrastructure for small- and medium-sized businesses.

Fujitsu plans to position the online delivery site, known as J-SaaS, as a part of its cloud computing business, and will work together with various application vendors to promote the use of information and communication technologies through the utilization of cloud computing by small- and medium-sized businesses.

As part of this transition, Fujitsu will continue to deliver services to J-SaaS's current small- and medium-sized business customers while offering user-friendly services to new customers that are considering employing SaaS.

Using the concept behind J-SaaS of supporting small- and medium-sized start-up companies as a base, Fujitsu will expand upon the approximately 50 SaaS applications in areas such as financial accounting, payroll calculation, and tax filing, as well as related services offerings.

Background

As part of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's SaaS Platform Project for Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises, the J-SaaS web services platform was launched in March 2009 to reduce the burden of ICT system investment and operational costs primarily for small- and medium-sized companies with roughly 20 employees.

Fujitsu participated in J-SaaS from the start, working with the Japan Research Institute of New Systems of Society, the leading member and operator of J-SaaS, on developing and operating the site. Fujitsu has now assumed lead responsibility for running the website.

Comment from Shigefumi Wada, President and Representative Director, OBC Business Consultants Co., Ltd., (J-SaaS member company)

"OBC Business Consultants Co., Ltd. welcomes this new start for J-SaaS. By providing SaaS offerings in areas such as accounting and payroll, I am confident that our company can contribute to raising the managerial efficiency of our small- and medium-sized business customers. We will work closely with Fujitsu to deliver products that meet the diverse needs of small- and medium-sized businesses."

Comment from Tsuneyuki Sakamoto, President and Representative Director, SmileWorks, Inc., (J-SaaS member company)

"SmileWorks, Inc. has very high expectations for the new release of J-SaaS. In the era of cloud computing, it is our belief that we will see great progress in the trend away from 'owning' proprietary business systems, toward securely and efficiently 'using' business systems hosted in outside datacenters. We will continue to work with Fujitsu in offering services through J-SaaS that contribute to improving managerial efficiency and promoting the use of ICT for small- and medium-sized businesses."
