Fujitsu Introduces docomo PRIME Series F-04B

- World's first separable handset -

Tokyo, March 23, 2010 — Fujitsu today announced that its new docomo PRIME series F-04B mobile phone will be available from NTT DOCOMO, Inc. in Japan beginning March 26, 2010.

The F-04B features the world's first⁽¹⁾ separable handset, allowing the display and keyboard units to be detached from each other. By detaching the phone's keyboard from the display, users can easily send e-mails or search their address book while talking. When the display is attached to the keyboard, the phone slides open and closed. Since the display has a touch-screen, it can operate independently of the keyboard, allowing the phone to take whatever shape that best suits the user's needs. A projector unit (sold separately)⁽²⁾ is also available, which makes it possible for users to view mobile phone contents on a large screen, adding scalability to the handset.

To keep up with advances in mobile-phone functionality and services, Fujitsu has offered such unique and innovative designs as the rotate-screen sliding phone. The new docomo PRIME series F-04B is based on a "freestyle design" concept, allowing it to be used in whatever way the user wants—as a familiar slider phone, or with the keyboard detached from the display, or as a slim 9.8-mm touch-screen device. The detached mode gives users an unprecedented ability to have phone conversations while using the screen to look up phone numbers, check schedules, read/send e-mails, browse the Internet, and watch "One-Seg" TV broadcasts. This flexibility opens up entirely new ways of using the phone.

The keyboard unit can be used either as a numeric keypad or a QWERTY keyboard for faster typing. The revolutionary keyboard unit contains its own microphone and speaker, allowing it to be used on its own for phone calls. The display unit can also be attached to a projector unit, enabling users to view mobile phone contents, such as one-segment TV, photo albums, and other documents, on a large screen of up to 66". Other optional units for attaching to the screen will be introduced in the future, extending the phone capabilities even further.

1. Easy-to-use freestyle design

• Three usage modes to suit different needs
  The phone can be used as a typical sliding phone (normal mode) or with the keyboard unit detached from the display (detached mode), in which case the display can either be used alone as a touch-screen device, or in conjunction with the keyboard, allowing users to handle phone calls while viewing the screen.
• Detached mode makes it possible to have a phone call while continuing other activities
  With the phone in detached mode, users can carry on phone calls while utilizing any of the following functions:
  
  Read/send e-mails; view address book; check schedule; read documents; take/view pictures; watch "One-Seg" TV; access iMode as well as the Internet via full web browser.
  
  Detaching the phone's two units during a call will automatically trigger an "in-call launcher" on the display unit, making it easy to access various functions with one hand.
• Greater privacy for videophone
  Users can place the keyboard unit close to their ear during a videophone call, enabling them to protect their privacy by preventing conversations from being overheard.
• Keyboard functions as remote control
  The camera, found inside the display unit, can be triggered remotely from the detached keyboard. The keyboard unit can also be used to remotely control volume and change channels while watching "One-Seg" TV.

2. Projector unit F01 provides the big picture

• Large-screen view offers greater usability
  When attached to the display unit, the F01 projector unit (sold separately) can project mobile phone contents, including photos, video, and documents, to a large screen of up to 66", making the phone useful in both private and business settings. For example, by using the projector unit, friends can play one-on-one mobile phone games, and colleagues can view documents from their phones at business meetings. In addition, the F01 can be used as a conventional projector⁽³⁾ by simply connecting it to a digital camera or PC.

3. High-performance 12.2 megapixel effective resolution camera

• Milbeaut Mobile image-processing engine
  The 12.2 megapixel camera utilizes the high-speed, high-accuracy Milbeaut® Mobile image-processing engine, which faithfully captures subtle details and tone variations in subjects.

4. Advanced human-sensing technology

• "ETGA Swing Lesson" golf-swing analyzer application
  Using 3D motion-sensing technology (patent pending), the application monitors golf-swing movements when the phone is clipped to the user's waist⁽⁴⁾ and automatically measures it. Using this data, the phone provides a diagnosis of the swing and advice for improvement based on the principles developed by professional golfer, Mr. Tadashi Ezure.
  
  With the F-04B, users can view their movements easily on the display by detaching it from the keyboard.
• "Exercise Monitor"
  Equipped with a custom engine that uses a physical exertion⁽⁵⁾ measurement algorithm to accurately measure calories expended⁽⁶⁾, the "Exercise Monitor" gives a real-time display of the user's exercise intensity when the phone is clipped to the waist.
• "Location Radar"
  By using this iAppli from the map search function, both the direction and distance to the user's destination will be shown, whether it be a convenience store, fast-food restaurant, bank, or other unfamiliar locations.

5. Advanced design

The phone is available in two colors: (1) a sophisticated and mature black that represents both functionality and fashion, and (2) an urbane, modern white that suits men and women alike.

Special cables may be required to connect the F01 projector to certain devices. The projector unit may not work with all devices.

4 Clipped to the user's waist:

The keyboard unit must be placed in the correct position when conducting measurements. Measurements are also possible when the display and keyboard units are attached.
