Fujitsu Joins Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership

Japan's first corporate network dealing with climate change from a business perspective

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, July 30, 2009

Fujitsu today announced its participation in the Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (Japan-CLP). Japan-CLP is Japan’s first corporate network to look at climate change from a business perspective and be proactive at bringing about a sustainable, low-carbon society.

Fujitsu views membership in this partnership as a way to strengthen its existing activities to create a prosperous, low-carbon society, as described in its "Green Policy 2020" mid-term environmental vision, and to deliver results from these activities to its customers.

About the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership

Japan-CLP is a corporate network that brings together companies from various sectors to be proactive in acting against climate change for the benefit of society. The partnership considers climate change as one of the major management issues today. (URL: http://japan-clp.jp/en/index.html)

The Japan-CLP's objectives are as follows:

  1. Japan-CLP regards de-carbonization to be the precondition for future economic activities, and aims to build a sustainable low carbon society.
  2. We will create a shared vision towards a sustainable low-carbon society, and each member company will lay out its own commitment and lead through action.
  3. With Asia as our base for action, we will communicate proactive messages to accelerate changes in society.

The partnership will spread its strong message in Japan and throughout Asia by such constructive activities including providing consultation on building a sustainable, low-carbon society.

About Fujitsu's involvement

One of the values laid out in the Fujitsu Way, the Fujitsu Group's corporate philosophy embodying its guiding principles and overarching values, states that the company aims to "protect the environment and contribute to society" in all its actions. Based on this vision, Fujitsu has positioned environmental preservation as one of its top managerial priorities, setting specific targets in all areas of its business, and developing activities to reach these objectives in a planned and consistent way.

Fujitsu's Green Policy 2020 is the company's mid-term environmental vision, developed in light of the declaration made in 2008 by the G8 that members will work together to cut greenhouse gas emissions to half their current levels by 2050. Under the three keywords of "Creation," "Collaboration," and "Change," the company seeks to bring about a prosperous, low-carbon society, by pursuing the following three specific goals:

  1. To contribute in helping reduce carbon emissions in Japan by 30 million tons annually by 2020, through the provision of advanced, energy-efficient technologies and solutions, thus lowering worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. To offer world-class overall energy efficiency in all of its business areas.
  3. To preserve biodiversity.

Fujitsu is working hard to promote these initiatives on its own, but is also eager to collaborate with companies in various sectors. Through its collaboration with the Japan-CLP, Fujitsu aims to make progress towards its own goals, while delivering results to customers and helping them to improve the sustainability of their businesses.
