Fujitsu Releases TeamStore/M Point-of-Sale System

- Speeds up checkout lines while offering food-safety and environmental benefits for large retailers -

Fujitsu Limited,Fujitsu Frontech Limited

Tokyo, May 11, 2009

Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Frontech Limited jointly announced today's release of TeamStore/M, a point-of-sale (POS) system for supermarkets and other large retailers.

TeamStore/M features an easy-to-understand and easy-to-operate screen design that uses a large font size and a simple function button layout. This makes the POS system much easier to use, reducing wait time for customers while streamlining the checkout process.

As TeamStore/M is compliant with the GS1 databar(1), which stores more information than conventional barcodes, it can display on-screen alerts based on encoded use-by dates, thus preventing the sale of expired goods and contributing to food safety.

As well, the POS system can send information such as individual store data, to a central location through a network so that data currently handled by POS servers in each individual store can be consolidated onto a main server. This reduces overall space and electricity requirements and thereby helps to create an environmentally responsible system.

In recent years, retailers have looked to their POS systems to do more than simply increase transaction efficiency. Systems offering customers a smoother checkout process, as well as playing a significant role in promoting broader food-safety and meeting environmental goals, are high in demand.

To meet these high expectations for POS systems, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Frontech have put forward their extensive experience in the retail sector to develop TeamStore/M.

Product Features

1. Simple, easy-to-use POS system

User Touchscreen

The new system greatly enhances user-friendliness of POS systems by displaying the necessary information through a clear and comprehensive design template.

TeamStore/M was designed taking into consideration those users, such as part-time employees, who would be encountering their first POS system, and includes on-screen, step-by-step guidance. It organizes frequently-used function buttons into a row along the bottom of the screen for one-touch, easy accessibility. The easy-to-use operational system allows for short-term training so that users can be brought up-to-speed in no time.

2. Contributing to food safety

As TeamStore/M can read use-by dates encoded into the GS1 databars, expiration date checks on perishables can become a part of the checkout process. This feature safeguards against the sale of outdated food products, so that both the customer and retailer can enjoy a safe shopping environment.

3. Environmentally-conscious and conserving energy

TeamStore/M has a built-in network system that allows information, such as POS data from each respective store, to be consolidated in main servers at a single location. As a result, the required storage space and electricity usage needed to separately manage multiple POS servers at each individual store is minimized. For a chain of 30 stores each with 1 POS server, the number of servers can be minimized to 6 main servers centralized in one location thus reducing CO2 emissions by 30.4% in turn (estimate by Fujitsu Group).

TeamStore/M will be on display at Fujitsu Forum 2009, running May 14-15 at the Tokyo International Forum (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).
