Fujitsu to Exhibit at Japan Design Selection 2009 in Milan

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, April 08, 2009

Fujitsu Limited today announced that it will be an exhibitor at Japan Design Selection 2009, which will run April 21 – 27 in Milan, Italy.

Sponsored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, the expo is being held as part of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the world's largest interior design trade show. It will showcase a variety of products that demonstrate Japanese design excellence in a wide range of categories, from the dual perspectives of innovation and tradition.

Fujitsu will showcase its mobile phones as a leading example of the company's design approach, which emphasizes easy interaction between people and IT and combines design strengths with technological expertise to enhance universal design and create new relationships between individuals and society.

Overview of Fujitsu's Exhibit

Fujitsu has been participating in this expo since 2005. During its previous exhibits, the company introduced novel global design concepts that mostly focused on personal computers. This year, the company is putting the spotlight on mobile phones as the means for bringing a better life to more people around the world. The concept behind the company's mobile phones comprises two design principles: advanced design, which opens the door to a richer future, and universal design, which makes those benefits more accessible to more people.

1. Advanced design

"STYLE FREE, SELECT FREE": Separable Mobile Phone

Fujitsu designers anticipate future trends and explore new applications of IT in everyday life. With a clear vision, Fujitsu continuously brings forth innovative IT concepts that improve lifestyles.

"STYLE FREE"

Fujitsu's latest mobile phone prototype separates into two units, a screen and keyboard, connected wirelessly by Bluetooth. This gives mobile users the ultimate flexibility to reconfigure the phone to meet their needs. The keyboard is a touch-panel display that can be freely switched between a 10-key input and a full keyboard.

"SELECT FREE"

Mobile users freely choose devices to fit their specific needs, with various devices connected seamlessly through Bluetooth. A necklace-style mobile device features an ultra-compact screen, while a pen-style input device and large-screen unit serve different customer needs.

2. Universal design

Raku Raku Phone, F-05A Kids Phone, and ColorAttendant Software

The Raku Raku Phone series was created to bring everyone, including seniors and people with hearing impairments, the convenience that mobile phones can provide. The Raku Raku Phone series has been a bestseller since its introduction, with total shipments of 14.4 million units in Japan. In addition to hardware design, Fujitsu has also been investing in software development. The ColorAttendant software application makes use of mobile phone cameras to identify colors for those with visual impairments.
