"Fujitsu Islands" Open in Second Life

- 3D virtual world to host creative new interaction with customers -

Fujitsu Limited announced today that it has created "Fujitsu Islands" within the Second Life three-dimensional virtual world operated by Linden Lab of the U.S. The Islands will open to the public today at 18:00 Japan time.

The Fujitsu Islands were designed to provide a new venue for creative interaction with customers. The Islands will introduce Fujitsu history, products, and services in an interactive 3D world, as well as promote the results of various collaborative research projects, such as the brain function research being undertaken with government agency Riken and Japan Shogi Association.

The 3D virtual world Second Life has captured the interest of millions of Internet users around the world, with more than 10 million global registrants and a fast-rising number of subscribers in Japan(1).

Fujitsu Islands will act as a new venue to interact with customers and to evaluate the impact of this cutting-edge information technology and communication means on business. Fujitsu's ultimate objective is to create new value for customers using this technology.

Product Showroom and History Museum

In addition to Company announcements, promotions, and e-commerce services, Fujitsu will collaborate with customers in various fields to host experimental projects at Fujitsu Islands. The fruits of these projects will seed the development of new products, services, and forms of communication.

In the future, Fujitsu plans to broaden the application of 3D virtual platforms beyond Second Life and into various areas of its product and services businesses with the aim of creating new business opportunities in partnership with customers.
