Kagawa University, Fujitsu Limited, and Fujitsu Design Limited today announced they have received the Category of Future Generations Gold Award at the IAUD Awards(1) 2014, held by the International Association for Universal Design (IAUD)(2), for their joint project to provide lifestyle and educational support through the use of ICT to children who have special needs due to developmental and intellectual disabilities.

This project started as a joint research initiative in July 2010 to test the effectiveness of using familiar ICT devices to provide lifestyle and educational support to special needs children, as well as their guardians and caretakers. The result of this project has been an initiative that provides the Special Support Mobile Phone App and Special Support Smartphone App lifestyle and educational support applications free of charge.

The Fujitsu Group has long been working on universal design initiatives aimed at bringing about an ICT society in which everyone can take part, and will continue research and development to make ICT more easy to use for all in the field of special needs education and other fields, while enabling more people to take part in society through the use of ICT.
