Through its project management model geared towards financial entity solutions, Fujitsu España designed an architecture which enabled Caja Rioja to fulfill its two primary objectives: to migrate towards a new technology and to reduce the complexity of the maintenance and integration of the current platform.
Using a branch model based on OS/2 and Windows NT 4.0 servers, directory services were designed which were flexible and which boasted an architecture allowing the integration of the current platform. Consequently, the impact of the changeover process on end users was minimal.
The technological solution was based on Windows 2000 directory services (Active Directory) which, on a Fujitsu-Siemens Primergy server architecture, offered a service centralization, software management and secure Internet access model for all the Caja Rioja users.
The new platform was developed and implemented gradually integrating all the elements from the preceding architecture so that both systems could coexist throughout the entire process.
The users’ workstations were created on the basis of models defined by the customer depending on their requirements and through wholly automated processes, meaning that the equipment integrated in the platform was available in record time.
Finally, all the Primergy servers are equipped with failure tolerance architecture in their diverse components guaranteeing the stability of the global platform and the directory services in the face of any irregularity.
The platform solution implemented by Fujitsu will continue to play a pivotal role in meeting Caja Rioja’s needs as new applications and services are incorporated in the future. Using a design which is open and assessed to meet the customer’s needs, it will allow the easy integration of any solution which requires directory services as the basis for its architecture and execution.
Final Implementation Model
All the infrastructure design models have currently been completed and the new platform has been deployed to the branches.
It was possible to integrate the more than 100 branches in the Windows 2000 directory services and in the new Internet access model.
It was also possible to consolidate the main services and applications in the headquarters and to successfully reduce the overall maintenance and management cost via the new functionalities integrated into the platform.
Finally, and with the support and direct collaboration of the Caja Rioja team, diverse additional solutions were implemented into the initial project enabling other benefits to be reaped, costs to be reduced and management functionalities to be increased. These are all objectives of the technological strategy of the Caja de Ahorros de La Rioja.
