Fujitsu Deepens Commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals

News facts:

  • Fujitsu Global Delivery organisation is creating virtual communities to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all
  • Employees forming Tribes – virtual communities to share and collaborate without frontiers – initially in a 5,800-strong pilot proposed to expand in January to more than 23,000
  • Tangible, proactive action from Fujitsu employees in helping drive change in areas including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and peace and justice
London, October 07, 2020 - Fujitsu today deepens its support for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a new pilot program by its Global Delivery organisation. Effective immediately, a pilot group of approximately 5,800 Global Delivery employees are creating virtual communities to share and collaborate without frontiers, as they take responsibility for making a positive difference to society.
Fujitsu is creating virtual communities called Tribes around the UN SDGs. The SDGs are 17 global goals designed to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice, and many more. The SDGs target 2030 and provide a framework for civil society, governments and companies to work collaboratively and beat these difficult challenges.
This Corporate Social Responsibility initiative is aligned with Fujitsu’s corporate purpose, which is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. The introduction of Tribes extends Fujitsu’s commitment to the UN SDGs. Participants in the Tribes pilot are the Fujitsu Global Delivery management team, some Americas and European-based delivery team members, and Global Delivery Center employees in Costa Rica, India, and Portugal. These employees will each pick one of the 17 SDGs to support and join the associated SDG Tribe. The formation of Tribes provides motivation and inspiration for employees to come together in focus, collaboration, networking, group learning and action around specific initiatives supporting an SDG.
Empowering individuals to start making a positive change for the greater good
Tim White, Corporate Executive Officer, SVP, Head of Global Delivery at Fujitsu, says: “The pilot within Fujitsu’s Global Delivery group highlights how individuals can be empowered to make a positive change for the greater good. Responsible business is a key foundation of Fujitsu’s Global Delivery organisation and has helped us focus on wellbeing throughout the many challenges presented by the COVID pandemic. We believe this takes our commitment to responsible business to the next level, as we enable colleagues to live the Fujitsu Purpose of making the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation.
White continues: “A successful pilot will lead to us going further with our commitment to the UN SDGs by introducing Tribes across the entire 23,000-strong Global Delivery organisation – providing a positive social focus through the skills and knowledge of our employees to catalyse innovation – as well as turning the spotlight on the benefits of being part of Fujitsu’s Global Delivery organisation.”
Around the world, Fujitsu employees working in the Global Delivery business are already deeply involved in community initiatives, such as volunteering with the nonprofit international development organisation SOS Children’s Villages in the Philippines, collaborating with local children’s non-governmental organisation Słonie na Balkonie in Poland, and supporting the wellbeing and education of hundreds of children in India through the support of the nonprofit school lunch program Akshaya Patra. Fujitsu has a breadth of global delivery capabilities, including regional operations in Japan, across Asia, in the Americas, Oceania, and across Europe. Global Delivery Centres operate in multiple locations across eight countries, including China, Costa Rica, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal and Russia.
The Fujitsu Global Delivery Group combines these diverse geographic strengths with the best of Fujitsu’s broad technology capabilities, deep industry expertise and provides 24/7 global services. The Global Delivery Group has a continuous focus on upskilling teams, continuously improving practices and embedding Agile principles into every element of service delivery, helping customers overcome challenges in real-time.
The Tribes pilot within the Fujitsu Global Delivery organisation will run from October through December 2020. Based on its momentum, Fujitsu plans to extend the concept to the entire organisation from January 2021 onwards.
