ATLAS Security Patch #7802

This Urgent Correction Patch is distributed as a correction to prevent a serious problem. The contents below include information on both Japanese version and English version of ATLAS.

PC (Supported Machines)

• All machines on which ATLAS V6.0 through V11.0 are supported.

Contents of the patch

• "Web Translation" Function
  (ATLAS V6.0 - ATLAS V11.0)
  Security problems have been corrected.
• File Translation / Quick File Translation
  (ATLAS V7.0 - ATLAS V11.0)
  Security problems have been corrected.
  
• InternetUpdate Function
  The function used to automatically install new dictionaries and update modules has been modified to use the safer method of downloading before installation.

Notes for applying the Urgent Correction Patch

• If ATLAS is running, please quit the application before applying the Urgent Correction Patch.
• In Windows(R) XP, Windows(R) 2000, and Windows NT(NT) 4.0, please apply the Urgent Correction Patch from an account with Administrator status.
• After applying the Urgent Correction Patch, if you run [Repair], the corrected module will be replaced by the unpatched original module. After reinstalling, or repairing ATLAS, be sure to apply the Urgent Correction Patch again.
• Do not apply the patch if you have applied any special patches or additional functions. Before applying the patch, please consult with the division that provided you with the special patch to confirm whether this patch can be applied.

Notes

• Regarding Web Translation function
  If the Web Translation function is used with Internet Explorer 4.0 or 5.5, problems may occur on your computer due to a security issue. Please do not use this function. After applying the urgent correction patch, if you attempt to translate a page, a warning message is displayed. As an alternative, please use the functions described below.
  
  [When using ATLAS V8.0 or later]
  This patch only affects the "Web Translation (Netscape)" function. If you are using Internet Explorer 5.01 or later, please use the "Web Translation (Internet Explorer)" function instead.
  
  [When using ATLAS V6.0 or later]
  Please use selected area translation or clipboard translation. - If ATLAS is uninstalled after applying this patch, the file "ATLIECHK.DLL" might remain in the ATLAS installation folder.

How to use the patch

• Downloading the update pack
  1. Create a new folder on your hard disk. You may change the folder name if you wish. In the following description the folder will be called "new folder".
  2. When you click the button below, a dialog will appear asking whether to save the file. Select "save" and select "new folder" as the destination folder.

• Unzipping the update pack
  1. Open the "new folder" where you saved the downloaded file.
  2. Double-click the file.
  3. The file will begin to unzip into "new folder".
  4. The following files should appear after unzipping.
     
     README.TXT…Cautionary notes for applying the patch, and description of the product (Japanese)
     README_E.TXT…Cautionary notes for applying the patch, and description of the product (English)

• Applying the update pack
  1. Shut down your browser and any other applications.
  2. Double-click the unzipped file "ATLPT7802.exe".
  3. Select the display language of the installation screen and click the [OK] button.
  4. Check the contents of the message and click [Next].
  5. The "Description of the security patch" dialog will be displayed. Check the contents and click [Next].
  6. The "Ready to Install the Program" Dialog will be displayed. Click the [Install] button.
  7. The correction module will be copied. When the copying is finished, the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" dialog will be displayed. Click the [Finish] button.
     
     After applying the patch, "new folder" and the files contained in it can be safely deleted.
