Fujitsu Boosts Research Capabilities in France to Accelerate Artificial Intelligence for Customers across Europe

The aim of these initiatives is to increase the speed of adoption of AI technologies by providing a wide range of improved services for consumers and businesses across Europe, such as faster, more accurate healthcare diagnosis and more secure online banking.

EU Horizon 2020 research project
Fujitsu has joined an EU Horizon 2020 research project, with the aim to develop an AI solution to reinforce the security of banking networks. The project will introduce a novel predictive and integrated approach to the cyber and physical security of critical infrastructures in the financial sector. Data-driven AI-based mechanisms will identify and anticipate security incidents, enabling financial institutions to handle more complex attacks and to comply with regulations faster and at less cost. Work on the EU Horizon 2020 AI project will take place in Fujitsu’s AI CoE in France.

More than 30 AI projects are already underway at the CoE focusing on the use of video analytics in the retail and industrial sectors. Fujitsu and Inria, a national research institute dedicated to digital technology, have established a long-term research and a co-creation program at Paris-Saclay to develop new AI and machine learning techniques by leveraging advanced mathematics and computing. The Fujitsu AI CoE also promotes academic partnerships, initiating talent exchanges within Fujitsu’s capabilities in Europe and in Japan and high-ranked institutions such as Ecole Polytechnique and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden.²

Paris-Saclay initiative builds on Fujitsu’s 30-year heritage in Artificial Intelligence
Fujitsu has invested in AI research for more than 30 years and its strategy includes collaborative research within wider ecosystems, as underlined by a 50 million Euro initiative with Paris-Saclay announced last year to support French organizations with their digital transformation. By combining its own expertise with Paris-Saclay’s vibrant innovation ecosystem, Fujitsu has already engaged in co-creation projects with one third of the start-ups on-site. Additionally, Fujitsu is already implementing large-scale AI deployments, for example in working with the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid to provide a support system for clinical decisions, based on data fusion, and helping leading wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa to implement a quality control system leveraging AI.
