Tokyo, December 18, 2012 — Fujitsu today announced the immediate availability of the ESPRIMO N5280FA long-life server, available in two maintenance contracts of different lengths, for up to ten years.
Industrial systems, such as factory automation and material-handling systems(1), and emergency-dispatch systems used by police, fire, emergency medical services, and other public infrastructure all rely on products that can remain in service, operate continuously, and be maintained for long periods of time. Fujitsu has been meeting the needs of these markets since 1989 with special personal computers designed for industrial settings. With the introduction of the new long-life servers, Fujitsu has now made it possible to build client-server systems for high-reliability systems on a larger scale.
The new model is being offered alongside the existing long-life personal computers as part of a new ESPRIMO Long-Life series, which will be expanded with additional models in the future.
Most personal computer models are sold for about half a year, with a service life of about five years. Fujitsu, however, offers models in its ESPRIMO Long-Life series for roughly three years, with a ten-year service life, to meet the needs of the industrial sector and public infrastructure.
Fujitsu is building on this experience with the debut of the new long-life server. It incorporates Intel's Embedded CPU and Microsoft's Embedded OS, both time-tested products that have been used in industrial instrumentation and detection equipment, as well as river and dam monitoring and intelligent traffic systems. The same model will be available for years to come, so customers can avoid the added effort of hardware and application systems evaluations and qualification testing whenever new hardware or operating systems are released. In addition, the ten-year service life of this model is perfectly suited to industrial systems and public-infrastructure systems that require extended uptime.

The ESPRIMO N5280FA and its target markets
The CPU is the 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i3 Processor, which excels both in raw performance and cost/performance. Having Windows Server® 2008 for Embedded System Standard (32-bit) preinstalled enables high performance and long-term availability.
The server meets standards for controller computer environments (JEITA IT-1004), including operating temperatures up to 40°C and anti-dust measures. Dust filters are included as standard, so it can be used in harsh environments such as factory floors and public-infrastructure settings.
Combining hardware designed for reliability with Fujitsu's SupportDesk contract for maintenance and operating-support services ensures steady operations for as long as ten years.
