Fujitsu to Help Develop Next-Generation Energy Vision for Satsumasendai City

To explore the city's smart community plans through a collaboration between industry, academia and government

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, April 16, 2012

Fujitsu today announced its support for Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture, as the city pursues urban development that leverages the introduction of next-generation energy sources. Fujitsu will also participate in the Satsumasendai City Next-Generation Energy Vision Development Committee, which the city recently established.

The new committee—which brings together companies, institutions and universities based in Satsumasendai City—aims to develop a next-generation energy vision that will bring about sustainable economic development for the city.

In addition to supporting the formulation of the vision through a variety of proposals that take advantage of ICT, Fujitsu will also actively participate in projects that are under consideration by the city, such as smart grid field trials. This is in order to contribute to the realization of a smart community in Satsumasendai City.

Background

In 1978, Fujitsu established Kagoshima Fujitsu Limited (currently Fujitsu Integrated Microtechnology Ltd.) in the town of Iriki, currently known as Satsumasendai City. Since then, Satsumasendai City has been a very important center of activity for Fujitsu.

More recently, Fujitsu has been supporting Satsumasendai City community groups by making it quick and easy for them to disseminate information on their activities' status and other news, and by constructing a community activities website easily accessible by local residents. In this way Fujitsu is developing an exceptional relationship as an ICT partner to the community.

In participating in Satsumasendai City Next-Generation Energy Vision Development Committee, Fujitsu will work together with companies, institutions, and universities based in Satsumasendai City to provide technological support for proposals. Fujitsu will help the committee to implement such proposals based on an action plan for the development of a next-generation energy vision.

Through the power of ICT, Fujitsu strives to bring about a "Human-Centric Intelligent Society" that will lead to a prosperous and convenient future for all. Going forward, Fujitsu will work together with Satsumasendai City to consider issues facing the city and an approach to revitalization, and then take steps to find needed solutions.
