Spain Fujitsu supplies Värmdö Municipality with business analysis software as a service

junio 05, 2008

IT company Fujitsu Services has signed an agreement with the Swedish Municipality of Värmdö in which Fujitsu provides QlikTech's award-winning QlikView business analysis system as a service over a 3-year period. Today, Fujitsu is the sole provider of Sweden's most popular business analysis software as a service. The provisioning solution enables Värmdö Municipality to cut costs.

This is not the first time that Värmdö Municipality has chosen to buy software as a service. The industry used to talk of ASP, for example, and the municipality was one of the first to adopt and promote this approach to buying applications. Värmdö has previously bought W3D3, a document and case management system, as a service. Now the municipality continues along this path with the QlikTech business analysis system.

"I've long seen the need to take this route. Developing expertise in software implementation and maintenance is not a municipal undertaking," says Jörgen Sandström. "I've seen examples where municipalities are forced to employ one, two or even three full-time staff to administer similar functions, which is considerably more expensive than allowing an external supplier to manage the application for us. These savings are part of efforts to reduce administrative costs in the municipality."

The agreement between Värmdö Municipality and Fujitsu Services was signed recently and the implementation of QlikView at Värmdö Municipality is already underway. The objective is to soon offer about 100 managers a business analysis system so that they can base their decisions on the most up-to-date information available.

"At present, we're the only company in the Swedish market to offer business analysis software as a service," explains Stefan Andersson, Business Project Manager at Fujitsu. "We're currently focused on building up an organisation for this type of business and it's most satisfying to receive confirmation that we're on track."
