News facts:
  • Updated BS2000 SE Infrastructure version 6.2 combines innovation and continuity in a future-proof solution, with support guaranteed for up to seven years
  • Fujitsu is first vendor to offer Live Migration for mainframes
  • State-of-the-art platform for business-critical operations in the digital age, supported by extensive training and service offerings
Munich, January 11, 2018 - Fujitsu further extends the future outlook for customers running BS2000 mainframes, with upgrades to the software and guaranteed support for up to seven years for SE300B and SE700B servers. Underlining the long-term relevance and availability of mainframes as the backbone of digital business, the latest software upgrades also introduce live migration capabilities.
Version 6.2 of the Fujitsu Enterprise Server BS2000 SE System Software provides a state-of-the-art, robust infrastructure platform for modern, data-intensive IT applications, combining innovation and continuity in a complete, high-scaling and future-proof solution. This latest version provides further investment protection to customers relying on mainframes at the heart of their business-critical operations, delivering all-round improvements in availability, openness, automation and efficiency.
Rupert Lehner, SVP Enterprise Platform Services EMEIA at Fujitsu, says: “Performance, reliability and efficiency are the hallmarks of mainframe systems, making them vital high-end components of IT infrastructures that have to handle vast amounts of data in real time. Enterprises continue to depend on mainframes to deliver reliable performance and ensure constant system availability, and that is why many of today’s digital transactions run through mainframe systems. Enhancements to the BS2000 SE Infrastructure ensure that customers have best platform for every deployment scenario – and a very secure and adaptable environment to support their digital transformation. We are continually innovating our mainframe offering, listening carefully to our customers’ needs, and we are dedicated to providing them with future-proof solutions that will deliver, now and in the future.”
Live Migration
Fujitsu is also leading the market with the introduction of Live Migration for mainframe systems running on x86 or /390 Server Units. This unique new feature allows organizations to migrate mainframe guest systems and applications to a second server in a BS2000 infrastructure without any interruption – a world first. As a result, enterprises can speed up planned maintenance, relocation after failover, and rebalance workload distribution without impacting service continuity and availability, therefore ensuring the smooth, uninterrupted operation of 24/7 mission-critical business applications.
New cluster functionalities allow customers to couple two BS2000 SE Infrastructures, creating a secure and fast internal data network for seamless communication across the Server and Application Units within the cluster. Combined with the Live Migration feature, enterprises can create failsafe, high-availability infrastructures that can be managed as one single instance.
Hallmarks of the latest software include enhancements to the SE Manager, providing easier centralized operation and infrastructure administration with simplified maintenance by management cluster. New SE Manager features include easier access to add-on software on remote Management Units, central logging of system events and administrator actions during operation, and extended support of x86 Application Units that allow organizations to run Linux and Windows applications within their BS2000 infrastructure.
In addition to long-term maintenance and support, the BS2000 SE Infrastructure is further supported by tailored service offerings from Fujitsu including product related services, managed services and application platform services. Fujitsu aims to help organizations to use mainframe solutions as a central high-performance engine for digital transformation. In addition, Fujitsu is proactively addressing the mainframe industry-wide skills crisis to educate a new generation of skilled mainframe engineers by stepping up the range of comprehensive training and know-how transfer offered by its Enterprise Platform Services (EPS) Academy.
