Eco-mode function in ETERNUS disk storage systems successfully verified with Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise Dynamic Storage Tiering (DST).

Fujitsu has verified that Eco-mode function of ETERNUS disk storage systems cooperates successfully with Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise Dynamic Storage Tiering (DST) from Symantec.

DST, available with UNIX and Linux versions of Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise, provides Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) by deploying files on different storage classes according to their importance and access frequency. Using DST, files can be moved to their most appropriate storage location based on predetermined policies. This enables total storage cost reduction and optimal storage utilization. DST moves files without changing directories. This means users and applications do not need to be aware that the files they are accessing have moved. This ensures seamless access to files wherever they are placed.

This combination of Veritas Storage Foundation Enterprise DST and ETERNUS disk storage systems, with its online and nearline disks, minimizes total storage costs and optimizes data use efficiency. In addition, the Eco-mode function in ETERNUS disk storage systems reduces power consumption and cooling costs.

This result adds a new Green IT solution to today's burgeoning Green IT requirements.
