Fujitsu Develops World’s First 1.2Tbps DCO Daughter Card for Multiple Applications

Kawasaki, Japan, March 7, 2018 - Fujitsu Optical Components Limited (FOC) announced today that it has successfully developed the world’s first 1.2Tbps Digital Coherent Optics (DCO) Daughter Card. The card enables up to 1.2Tbps coherent transmission for multiple applications such as ZR, Metro, Long Haul, Data Center Interconnect (DCI) and Submarine. It is planned for general availability product release later this year.

This product has been developed in a short time by using existing technologies including 64Gbaud LN modulator (*1), 64Gbaud integrated coherent receiver (ICR) (*2) and high bandwidth CFP2 Analog Coherent Optics (ACO) transceiver (*3), all of which have already been commercialized.

The 1.2Tbps DCO Daughter Card is the newest addition to FOC’s broad portfolio of high bandwidth products that encompass both device and module, addressing customers’ various requirements.

FOC is a market leader in the optical coherent transmission market and has proven itself by being the first in the world to launch leading-edge optical component products to meet the insatiable demands of global bandwidth growth. Last year, FOC launched the world’s first high bandwidth CFP2 ACO transceiver, 64Gbaud LN modulator and 64Gbaud ICR for use in single carrier, up to 600Gbps coherent transmission.

This year, FOC has successfully developed the world’s first 1.2Tbps DCO Daughter Card, which enables up to 1.2Tbps coherent transmission. The card can support multiple applications such as ZR, Metro, Long Haul, DCI and Submarine so as to meet the capacity needs and efficient system upgrades of global network service providers and datacenter operators.

This product supports various baud rates and modulation formats from 32Gbaud QPSK to 64Gbaud 64QAM in fine resolution, targeted to support multiple applications for long haul (thousands of kilometers), metro (hundreds of kilometers) and 80 to 120km ZR transmission.

Product Feature

・Using in-house 64Gbaud LN modulator, in-house 64Gbaud ICR and 64Gbaud DSP, this product enables coherent transmission of up to 1.2Tbps, which is six times the transmission speed of existing 200Gbps DCO transceivers.

・Using in-house L-band LN modulator, this product is able to support L-band transmission in addition to the C-band, thus enabling very large capacity coherent transmission in the C + L bands.
