Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading information and communications technology solutions and services provider, today announced the launch of the first Dual Socket PRIMERGY Xeon® 5500-based S5 server line in Hong Kong, including PRIMERGY TX300 S5 tower server, RX300 S5 and PRIMERGY RX200 S5 to the rack-mount server line-up. This is the first server line since Fujitsu Technology Solutions (formerly known as Fujitsu Siemens Computers) became a 100% subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited on 1 April 2009.

With the integration of Fujitsu Technology Solutions into the Fujitsu Group, Fujitsu continues to strengthen its global x86 server development and manufacturing and significantly improve the product line’s price performance. Customers will benefit from globally unified x86 server products based on the same quality standards, enabling them to build highly optimised IT environments at more affordable prices.

"The global launch of PRIMERGY S5 server line indicates that Fujitsu is well positioned to raise its global market share in products, solutions and data centre services," said Mr. Masami Yamamoto, Corporate Senior Vice President of Tokyo-based Fujitsu Limited. "With its brand values of outstanding quality, performance and green features, PRIMERGY is a cornerstone of Fujitsu’s strategy."

As the first server line by Fujitsu Technology Solutions, PRIMERGY Xeon® 5500-based S5 servers are designed to help business enterprises of all sizes to reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO) through green computing. Featuring Intel’s low-voltage and high-performing Xeon® 5500 processor series unveiled last week, the new servers deliver a power supply unit efficiency of at least 89%, which may increase to 92% for some models, achieving significant savings in TCO. Performance per watt is also accelerated by Turbo Boost Technology and Quick Path Interconnect (Intel® QPI), both new features of the Xeon® 5500 processor series.

The PRIMERGY S5 server line also features a sophisticated Cool-safe™ design, which includes a concept for more efficient ways of air flow through the cases. The improved ventilation opening ratio by using a honeycomb design, 17.5% more ventilated surface area than previous models , ensures that processors will run at maximum performance and all components will be kept cool for the highest reliability. Equipped with colour-coded release buttons for easy identification of components such as HDDs, and a system ID card installed in the server for recording equipment-specific data, PRIMERGY S5 servers also enable hassle-free system maintenance and administration.

Based on the latest Intel Xeon® 5500 processor series - code-named Nehalem - the new servers are optimised for maximum performance with the present and future requirements of customers in mind. With a memory capacity of up to 144 GB and up to four cores per Nehalem processor, the Dual Socket PRIMERGY S5 models offer up to eight cores per server, providing immense scalability based on end-users’ operational needs. They are ideal for virtualisation scenarios and consolidation projects. As in many cases, a single PRIMERGY S5 server is a perfect substitute for a cluster of older servers.

"The new S5 generation of PRIMERGY servers make a real breakthrough in terms of lifetime ownership costs for business enterprises of all sizes in Hong Kong. Possible applications include databases, data centres, virtualisation, e-commerce solutions, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management modules," said Mr James Pang, General Manager, Sales Department, Information System and Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. "The PRIMERGY S5 series are built to save time and resources through a revolutionary new design that optimises cooling and reliability, demonstrating our commitment to create value for customers with innovation and technology in an environmental-friendly manner."

Now available in Hong Kong, the PRIMERGY S5 series denotes a full range of server choices from entry level to high-end systems running both Microsoft Windows® and Linux operating systems.

Notes:

¹ A new technology that raises the processor's operating frequency under certain conditions for increased speed.

² New high-speed interconnect that replaces Front Side Bus (FSB).

³ Based on comparison of average ventilated surface area in RX300 S5 and RX200 S5 to RX300 S4 and RX200 S4. Specific values may vary depending on system configuration.
