  • Four-year contract extension covers Terveystalo’s entire IT infrastructure, maintaining critical applications and developing innovative, digital healthcare solutions
  • Terveystalo sees working with strategic IT partner Fujitsu as crucial to its continued rapid growth
Helsinki, May 22, 2018 – Fujitsu has successfully concluded a renewal of its existing IT services contract with Terveystalo, Finland’s leading private healthcare service provider. The third contract extension since the first contract was signed in 2007, this extension underlines Fujitsu’s strategic role in supporting Terveystalo’s rapid business expansion. The extended contract reaffirms Fujitsu’s commitment to delivering comprehensive IT services to Terveystalo spanning end users, applications, data center services and the cloud, as well as implementing innovative digital health solutions.
Terveystalo provides a range of healthcare services across Finland through a network of 18 hospitals and 180 clinics, serving private individuals, companies and communities, as well as the public sector. Nearly 9,000 healthcare professionals work at Terveystalo, caring for 1.2 million individual customers and handling 3.3 million medical appointments per year.
Since 2001, Terveystalo has enjoyed dynamic expansion through a combination of organic growth and approximately 140 acquisitions. This has underlined the importance of being able to integrate and extend existing IT infrastructures in the shortest period of time, as well as providing seamless business continuity.
By fully outsourcing its IT infrastructure to a dedicated service team at Fujitsu, Terveystalo has been able to focus on providing first-class care to its customers, and in developing new healthcare services. Fujitsu currently manages several thousand workstations and hundreds of servers for Terveystalo, provides a cloud platform based on Fujitsu Cloud Service K5, and supports approximately 9,000 users. As part of the secure and reliable service being provided, Fujitsu has also helped Terveystalo meet the increasing demand for mobile working within the company, and to implement strong security measures for data privacy.
Looking into the future, IT is set to become an even more critical success factor for Terveystalo, as the company is planning to extend the services it offers to customers by co-creating with Fujitsu to develop innovative solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the cloud, such as virtual services for post-operative care.
Juha Juosila, Chief Digital Officer at Terveystalo, says: “Fujitsu has been an extremely valuable and important partner for us, helping us to meet our customers’ needs at all times, while at the same time supporting us through our fast growth. The business environment in healthcare can be hectic and services need to be available 24/7.
We rely on Fujitsu’s in-depth understanding of our challenges to ensure that our infrastructure operates smoothly, securely, and cost-effectively. We have exciting plans for new digital services and we are confident that Fujitsu is the perfect partner for developing those innovations, as well as continuing to deliver an excellent experience to our employees and customers.”
Mikko Lampinen, Head of Public Sector & Healthcare, Fujitsu Finland, comments: “Speed of response is essential when it comes to supporting critical healthcare systems, so we provide a dedicated team that truly understands Terveystalo’s business. Our reliable and secure IT services have helped to drive Terveystalo’s growth: The company never stands still, and with a clear focus on its patients, it continues to innovate and develop new digital solutions. We’re excited about helping Terveystalo continue on its successful path, through building on our well-established partnership.”
