Fujitsu partners with Rocket Software to deliver Legasuite™ application screen modernisation to Australia & New Zealand

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, November 11, 2010

In a joint initiative announced today between Fujitsu's Legacy Modernisation Team and the Rocket Seagull brand from Rocket Software

(www.rocketsoftware.com), Rocket LegaSuiteTM is now available in Australia and New Zealand to extend the effective life of legacy applications by updating green-screen systems to modern looking applications without any costly changes to the underlying code. The LegaSuite toolset is now being rapidly deployed by the Fujitsu Global Legacy Modernisation team in Australia and around the globe under this agreement with Rocket.

"We are pleased to be working with Fujitsu, one of the world's great technology companies, to deliver the best possible solutions to organisations in a number of industries," says Andy Youniss, President and CEO of Rocket Software. "Rocket LegaSuite provides a fast, cost-effective way for organisations to modernise and integrate their existing business-critical applications on IBM System z, IBM System i, OpenVMS, UNIX and Windows platforms, and we are excited to have Fujitsu on board as a key services and distribution partner."

Martin North, Executive Director Industry Group at Fujitsu Australia Limited said,"One of the greatest business challenges is to leverage the investments and functionality of legacy systems to provide a future proofed solution. We know of no other tool that has the functionality of LegaSuite over such a wide set of platforms and technologies. Organisations which rely on legacy systems with old and often confusing screens in multiple, dissimilar applications can now quickly and easily change the end user experience without costly re-writing of the applications themselves."

Government agencies and private sector organisations, particularly those in the finance industry, rely heavily on business-critical software applications that run on System z (mainframe), System i (AS/400), OpenVMS and UNIX platforms. These applications and the platforms on which they reside are reliable, scalable and rich with business logic, and have a high degree of functional fit. Further, these applications do not have to become serious roadblocks to growth, innovation and workplace usability-they can be leveraged to deploy application functionality beyond the back office to new users and devices in the wider domain. And old-style, text-based and unfriendly user interfaces can be modernized, creating a more productive and useful interface for both existing and new knowledge workers entering the workforce.

LegaSuite is the lowest-cost, lowest-risk and fastest alternative for organisations with end-user community screen issues. The toolset web-enables applications which were previously only accessible on internal networks by converting green screens into browser-based UIs that look and behave like branded web applications. Enterprises can increase staff efficiency and morale by simplifying and enhancing the screens with which they work.

As LegaSuite requires no invasive recoding in the legacy system, there is minimal risk to existing applications or their business logic. New workflow functionality, including email generation and desktop integration, can be added up front, while applications from various platforms can be amalgamated into single workflows or even single screens. LegaSuite sits efficiently on a server, not on the legacy platform, and can run in a data centre or the cloud. The return on investment compared to re-build, re-write or developing a new front end is extremely competitive.

Fujitsu, utilising RocketTM LegaSuite product, can assist organisations seeking to deploy back office application functionality to new user communities and devices can retain the current applications on their current robust and reliable platforms and deploy LegaSuite to:

  • Create friendly, high-performance browser-based applications that are easy to use.
  • Extend applications outside the back office to new user communities and new devices.
  • Simplify application functions so that users who are not subject-matter experts can use them.
  • Modify application workflows to match business processes, increasing efficiency and reducing errors.
  • Integrate with other applications via industry standard APIs like Web services, enabling their applications to be used with current technological approaches such as service oriented architecture (SOA).

Legacy functionality can be modernised by further front-end value adds including:

  • Help responses
  • Upload and download to Excel and Word
  • Improved and standardised data entry validation
  • Widgets such as calendars, drop down boxes and lists of values
  • Tabbing screens to improve navigation
  • Single sign-on for multiple systems and behind the scenes navigation
  • Consistent application behaviour, look and feel

Ease of training also increases, as users no longer need to use old-style screens and jump between systems.

The Fujitsu team provides complete legacy modernisation solutions combining re-platforming, migration, extension and replacement.
