Fujitsu Wins Five Year Services Deal with Meridian

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Wellington, December 11, 2009

Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology and communications solutions, has entered into an agreement to become the prime vendor for Meridian Energy’s Information and Communication Technology infrastructure (ICTi) support services.

Meridian, New Zealand’s largest electricity generator, has selected Fujitsu New Zealand to provide full support services for all of its desktops, servers, data centres, telemetry, networks, carrier services and service desk for the next five years with an opportunity to renew the contract for another two plus two year period.

In a five year deal worth up to $50 million Fujitsu has partnered with Transfield Services and TelstraClear to win the business following an eight month intensive bidding process against a number of other major IT and communications providers.

“We are delighted to have been selected with our partners to work with Meridian Energy and are looking forward to supporting their continued success,” said Stuart Stitt, Managing Director, Fujitsu New Zealand. “Fujitsu has a strong focus on helping our customers achieve their desired outcomes and I am pleased that Meridian has determined that we are the right fit for their organisation.”

Meridian chief executive Tim Lusk says the new converged operating and delivery model confers major benefits on Meridian. “It allows significant cost reductions without compromising service standards,” he says.

The transition from Meridian’s current providers, HP, ABB and Telecom, is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2010. Throughout next year Fujitsu will work with Meridian to transform their ICT infrastructure.
