Fujitsu announces technology plans for 2010

Growth through acquisition in ’09 paves the way for further expansion

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, October 27, 2009

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, a leading provider of business, information technology and communications solutions, is set to consolidate its position as the third largest ICT firm in Australia and New Zealand with key product launches and business growth plans for 2010, following the integration of two key acquisitions as well as success with major account wins in 2009.

“Fujitsu will enter 2010 in a strong position following the success of this year, with our expanded capabilities and scale as an organisation coupled with new technology investments enabling us to create better value for existing and future customers,” said Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.

“With a new organisational structure incorporating KAZ and Supply Chain firmly in place, Fujitsu’s technology investment in 2010 will focus on the launch of cloud computing solutions in the local market; strengthened End User Computing offerings; expansion of Data Centres of excellence; and continued commitment to sustainability across all offerings.”

Integration success
The integration of KAZ Group, acquired from Telstra in May 2009 added 1,400 staff to the company. KAZ’s strong track record working with Australian governments further complimented and provided Fujitsu with enhanced service capabilities to leverage Federal public sector opportunities, along with a strong physical presence in Canberra.

“The teams have integrated well, sharing similar skills and industry-leading standards that make the unified organisation a powerful market force with strengthened industry partnerships and alliances,” Mr Vawdrey said.

Fujitsu also expanded its SAP portfolio significantly in 2009 through the acquisition of the Australia and South East Asia operations of Supply Chain Consulting. With the addition of Supply Chain’s staff, Fujitsu Australia became one of the largest SAP consulting practices in Australia and New Zealand, comprising more than 600 SAP experts.

“We now have one of the strongest portfolios of SAP solutions, customers and capabilities in Australia, with the ability to deliver new opportunities for our business and greater value to customers and shareholders,” Mr Vawdrey said.

“It gives us the ability to offer customers unprecedented choice of services and capabilities in the mid-tier, and the scale to service larger enterprises, all from a single provider.”

Growth in customer accounts
Major Fujitsu account wins in 2009 included Qantas, three Melbourne Universities, Verve Energy, Australian Treasury’s Standard Business Reporting Program and Metcash.

The Qantas deal covers the provision of all user-facing services for the airline’s domestic and international operations.

The Melbourne Universities win is an Australian-first with a shared data centre for The University of Melbourne, Monash University and RMIT University that will deliver data centre capacity at a lower cost than could be achieved independently, while securing greater flexibility and setting high standards for sustainability.

2010 strategic direction
To consolidate its position as a clear Top 3 ICT solutions provider, Fujitsu’s strategy for 2010 includes increasing market share by penetrating new vertical markets and increasing customer wallet-share through increased opportunities to cross-sell from a broader portfolio.

“The expansion of our capabilities will enable us to take more offerings to customers in more industries in more places. It gives us a launching pad from which to drive profitability through a greater ability to offer more packaged solutions and clear differentiation in the marketplace across our expanded solutions portfolio,” Mr Vawdrey said.

“We are focusing on new verticals, developing our Industry Group to support unique customer needs associated with their industry market requirements.

“In keeping with Fujitsu’s Customer Promise, our number one priority in 2010 will remain the delivery of great customer service. The foundations we have laid this year will enable us to enhance our service offerings and provide even more innovative solutions to customers.”

Power shift - End User Computing
Optimising the End User Computing (EUC) experience will be a key focus for Fujitsu in 2010, with developments, investment and innovation in technologies and support to enhance EUC, including virtualisation and unified communications.

“A focus on managing large-scale information systems from a business perspective in the corporate computing area means the individual end user has been largely left out of the IT service management equation. We plan to address that by placing computing power and capability in the hands of end users with our new EUC-focused solutions in 2010,” Mr Vawdrey explained.

Investing in excellence – Data centre expansion
Fujitsu is investing heavily to support the expansion of its Data Centres of Excellence in 2010, including building Australia’s most advanced, environmentally sustainable data centre in Perth, to open in the new fiscal year.

This multi-million dollar, purpose-designed and built facility will incorporate the latest energy-efficient technology to reduce the cost of operation and increase ROI for clients. It is backed by sophisticated building control management systems that remotely monitors and adjusts power settings around the complex as well as incorporates state-of-the-art biometric and other security technologies to deliver maximum efficiency, superior data integrity and resilience.

Cloud Solutions – Low-cost, flexible Dynamic Infrastructures
Fujitsu Australia is developing a local infrastructure-as-a-Service offering that will provide customers with greater choice in how they consume IT services including a new, low-cost alternative to owning infrastructure.

The cloud solution offers a managed pool of servers and storage as an alternative to businesses owning IT infrastructure. It provides secure server and storage pools with capacity that can be allocated to individual customers as and when required. Customers will only pay for what they need, when they use it.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service will be part of a full range of Dynamic Infrastructure offerings from Fujitsu, covering Workplace-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service.

“Our long history of outsourcing and substantial expertise in virtualisation offerings enables us to easily take this evolutionary step and lead the way in the marketplace,” Mr Vawdrey said. “We have partnered with leading technology companies to deliver a differentiable and sustainable Dynamic Infrastructure I-a-a-S offering. We will utilise our global presence and leverage existing capability to meet the needs of local customers.”

Sustainability - Creating value through environmental commitment
Fujitsu’s commitment to setting new standards in environmental sustainability will continue in 2010, with the company’s recent signing of the Copenhagen Communiqué reflecting its ongoing commitment to supporting the business case for action on sustainability.

“We have been running a series of environmental protection programs since 1993 and are committed to incorporating environmental innovation in all of our practices – R&D, product and service design, manufacturing, procurement and logistics.

“As the Australian economy moves towards carbon reporting and carbon trading, our expertise and innovation in the development and implementation of sustainable business strategy and solutions are going to become increasingly important.”

“Our focus on delivering service excellence will continue to be our most important priority. We head into 2010 with the ability to offer greater support, value and choice for customers through a broader range of solutions and services following the seamless transition of recent acquisitions and investment in new and sustainable technology.”
