Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand has appointed The Frame Group as lead design, build, delivery and project management consultant for its Homebush data centre upgrade.
General Manager Data Centre Services, Michael Gunton, said the upgrade of the Homebush facility was in line with Fujitsu’s commitment to considering the environmental impact of all of its operations and its policy on reducing carbon emissions.
“We’re concentrating our know-how and resources on reducing the environmental burden of IT infrastructure and helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint. The Homebush upgrade fits the bill on both counts,” Mr Gunton said.
Frame will use its expertise and environmental credentials to ensure the facility meets Fujitsu’s stringent design principles and delivers real and measurable savings on both emission and financial metrics.
Effective spatial layout planning will minimise thermal currents. In addition to hybrid cooling, the upgraded Homebush data centre will use recycled chilled water and air cooling devices deployed in conjunction with advanced power management techniques to deliver greater efficiencies.
The upgraded data centre will adhere to ISO 27001 for physical security and ASIO standard T4 for protective security. In addition, the facility will be upgraded to a Tier III standard of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centres.
Frame will provide Fujitsu with data centre design and management services for the infrastructure implementation for the upgraded Homebush facility, including:
- Spatial design;
- Power, air conditioning, environmental monitoring;
- Fire protection;
- Rack equipment;
- Cabling infrastructure;
- Remote management systems and
- End-to-end project management.
Mr Gunton said Fujitsu selected Frame following a review of several vendors.
“The Frame Group impressed us with their ability to provide a dedicated and flexible team of experienced experts willing to work as part of Fujitsu,” he said. “They took the time to really understand our business by visiting our data centres which gave them an overall appreciation of what was required and of our company culture.
“Frame’s environmental sustainability methodology and strategic framework is very impressive and it conveyed an optimistic approach in being able to meet our aggressive timeframe for the project.”
A rapid, phased upgrade plan means Fujitsu will have lettable space available for occupation by the end of March and all areas of the 1,500m² data centre ready for occupation by September this year.
National Sales Manager of The Frame Group, Roger Barlow, said the company was thrilled to have been awarded the Homebush contract.
“We look forward to delivering Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand a data centre which provides savings on both capital and operational costs while at the same time ensures that the data centre will work towards meeting future environmental standards,” he said.
“The contract win is testament to our team’s unrivalled knowledge base in designing and delivering complex projects within the data centre space as well as our ability to deploy technology to deliver commercial benefits.
“In addition to developing the strategic framework and migration technology plan for the Fujitsu data centre infrastructure, The Frame Group will assess, scope, remediate processes, source and manage contractors and builders, and assist with procurement of plant and equipment.”
Fujitsu operates data centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. Its complete portfolio of flexible data centre business models includes end-to-end managed services; hosting and co-location; disaster recovery and business continuity; project services and operations; and facilities management.
