NSW Police awards Fujitsu multi-million dollar CAD contract

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, September 12, 2006

Fujitsu Australia has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the State Contracts Control Board for the supply and installation of a high-performance computer-aided despatch (CAD) system for NSW Police.

The new system will provide NSW Police with access to high quality information to assist them in front line decision-making. It will facilitate the management of 000 calls, allowing incidents and their responses to be recorded and appropriate resources to be dispatched. Incorporating real-time graphical displays, the CAD system will allow detailed and accurate mapping with locality, intelligence and available resource information to ensure effective decision-making by law enforcement officers.

Fujitsu has partnered with UK-based Fortek Computers to deliver the CAD system. Fujitsu will implement Fortek’s VISION software, which was purpose-built for emergency services environments and has been successfully proven in police, ambulance and fire control rooms both in Australia and overseas.

Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said Fujitsu and Fortek offered NSW Police an unbeatable combination of an advanced solution, skills and experience delivering large-scale systems for policing environments.

“Fujitsu has an impressive track record of partnering with police, legal and emergency services organisations to deliver high performance IT solutions,” said Rod Vawdrey. “In Australia alone, our customers include WA Police, NSW Police, Queensland Police, Victoria Police, NSW Fire Brigades and ACT Emergency Services.”

“We have been working with Computer Aided Despatch systems for the past 12 years and understand both the functional and cultural requirements of NSW Police, particularly in the area of security, flexibility and high availability. Fujitsu is fully committed to delivering a solution that will not only support NSW Police with higher quality information, but which places the safety and effectiveness of NSW sworn officers at the centre of our vision.”

The Fujitsu solution has been designed to integrate with the many other operational and intelligence systems that underpin police activities in NSW, including the Police Records Systems and SAP. It will also be integrated with other emergency services systems, as a basis to enable coordinated dispatch of resources and incident management across Federal, inter-state and NSW services.

With usability a key issue for busy law enforcement officers, the new system has been designed with push-button simplicity. While the system is designed for ease of use, an important element of the implementation phase of the project will be centred round extensive testing and training for up to 18,000 users.

Fujitsu has begun working on the implementation of the CAD system with NSW Police, which is expected to go live in mid-2007.
