Fujitsu today announced the appointment of Ted Pretty as the new Non-executive Chairman of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.

Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said, “We are honoured to have Ted Pretty join us as the Chairman of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. Ted’s experience and understanding of the ICT industry, as well as his high profile in the business community and relationships at the most senior levels of government and the commercial sector, are all attributes which will benefit us greatly.

“In particular we wanted to appoint someone who has extensive experience in procuring ICT services and solutions, who understands the industry from the customer perspective and who can help us refine how we market, sell and deliver services to our customers. Ted will be a great asset to Fujitsu and I look forward to working with him in continuing to grow Fujitsu’s presence in the Australia and New Zealand market.”

Ted Pretty, Non-executive Chairman, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said, “I have known Fujitsu for many years and have always admired its focus on innovation and technology leadership. Locally, Fujitsu is a company on the ascendancy and I look forward to working with Rod and the Fujitsu board to build on the success Fujitsu has achieved in recent times.”

In addition to his role as Non-executive Chairman of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, Mr Pretty will maintain his other business interests which include his role as Senior Consultant, Telecommunications Media and Entertainment Group, Macquarie Bank and Chairman of RP Data Pty Limited.

In August 2005, Mr Pretty retired from Telstra Corporation Limited, Australia’s largest and leading telecommunications company. During his eight years at Telstra he held various Officer and Senior Executive roles including head of Telstra's technology, retail and international divisions as well as Chairman of Sensis, Telstra's media and directories business.

Prior to joining Telstra in 1997, Ted was an adviser to Optus and BellSouth Corporation. This role was preceded by a long-standing career as a lawyer, most recently as a partner of Media and Telecommunications Law Firm, Gilbert & Tobin.

Mr Pretty replaces Alan Baxter who resigned from the position of Non-executive Chairman, having served on the board of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand since March 2004. Rod Vawdrey said, “Alan Baxter has made a significant contribution to Fujitsu during his tenure as Chairman. Alan leaves us with our sincere appreciation and best wishes in his future endeavours.”
