Ipswich City Council Partners with Fujitsu to Enable Future Growth

Total project budget of $37 million over four years

Sydney, October 06, 2005

Fujitsu Australia Limited has won a four year contract with Ipswich City Council to transform its business processes, enhance its service delivery and equip it for significantly increased demand.

Located 40 minutes west of Brisbane in one of the nation’s highest growth regions, the city of Ipswich is currently the focus of substantial investment and development with several large housing estates and commercial developments either underway or in planning.

Recognising the challenges associated with an influx of 100,000+ residents and workers over the next few years, Ipswich City Council has partnered with Fujitsu for a major business transformation and ERP implementation program.

Ipswich Mayor, Paul Pisasale said Fujitsu will provide specialist consulting resources and expert methodologies to advance the business transformation process and develop the organisation’s long-term capabilities.

“We are committed to providing the best quality and breadth of service to our constituents and will work with Fujitsu to leverage the latest technologies and processes to maximise the value of our resources,” he said.

“Council must run its affairs like a business so we get the best return on investment for the people of Ipswich.

“Our city is experiencing the biggest growth phase in history and if we are to deliver current and future services on time and on budget we must have the best systems and technology at our disposal.

“This project will be run over the next four years, with a key focus being the delivery of substantial business and technology solutions,” Cr Pisasale said. “Fujitsu’s role is to advance the business transformation process, as well as develop the long term capability of the organisation by providing specialist consulting resources and expert methods.

“This partnership builds upon the strong relationship developed between Council and Fujitsu over the past 12 months,” he concluded.

Fujitsu CEO, Rod Vawdrey, said the contract builds on a series of successful activities with Ipswich Council over the past 12 months, and will deliver genuine benefits both for the organisation and the region.

“We are excited at the opportunity to apply our world class technologies and skills to advance Ipswich City Council’s service capabilities while enabling it to operate with greater efficiency and effectiveness. The entire Ipswich region will gain substantial value from this partnership through the transformation of the Council’s processes and services and through the re-skilling of its staff,” Mr Vawdrey said.

Ipswich City Council Information Technology Board chairman Councillor Paul Tully said: “Over the next 10 years we forecast that Council spending city-wide on new and refurbished infrastructure will be in the order of $1.5 billion. This is a major investment in any language.

“Like all organisations there must a regular cycle of change and review, and this partnership with Fujitsu will be the most far-reaching and important review of how we operate that I have seen in 26 years as a councillor.

“It is vital for the future of Ipswich that we move into this next important chapter of development armed with the necessary technology and systems. We must give our employees the capability to deliver better customer service with a growing population.

“The total project budget over the next four years will exceed $37 million. This includes accessing Fujitsu’s expert resources, employing project staff and procuring new hardware and software applications to replace aging systems,” Cr Tully said.
