Tredex ensures data security and high-availability with Fujitsu Eternus3000 SAN

Sydney, July 26, 2005

Australian paper recycling company Tredex has purchased a Fujitsu Eternus3000 storage area network (SAN) to safeguard its business data and support a new online transaction initiative for which high availability is critical. It is the first Fujitsu Eternus3000 sale in Australia.

Established in 1980, Tredex provides paper, paper recycling machinery and services to public and private sector organisations in Australia and overseas. The company also offers training and advice to companies on implementing paper recycling and waste auditing programs. Tredex is based in Sydney and has an office in New Zealand.

The Fujitsu Eternus3000 SAN will store 500 gigabytes of existing company data and host a new Web site for Tredex’s Paper to Paper division, which recovers paper from government and commercial premises for reprocessing. The division is now targeting small and medium-sized businesses, a move that is expected to increase storage needs at the company by up to 35 per cent.

The flexible capacity of the SAN will ensure the availability of Tredex’s data and applications. The new Paper to Paper Web site will allow prospective customers to request quotes online. Due to the high volume of requests expected, efficient quote processing and high levels of system uptime will be crucial.

Tredex has used a range of Fujitsu servers for the past nine years, making Fujitsu an obvious choice for its storage upgrade. Business growth and expansion into new markets prompted the company to review its storage infrastructure. According to Tredex Managing Director Graeme Holland, the company needed a more stable and flexible storage solution to replace disparate storage servers.

“We chose the Fujitsu Eternus3000 SAN because of its solid reliability and easy scalability,” he said. “We store all our documents online and need our Web site to be constantly available to customers, so we wanted a storage system that was virtually failsafe.”

The Fujitsu Eternus3000 SAN solution was installed in just one week and went live on July 4, 2005.

“We had used Fujitsu products for a long time and have always been impressed with their functionality,” Holland said. “Migrating to a Fujitsu SAN solution was logical and we had the added comfort of being familiar with Fujitsu technology.”

Tredex also purchased a PRIMERGY TX200 Intel-based server and upgraded an older Fujitsu server to act as a backup. Fujitsu system engineers worked with Tredex and a third-party systems integrator on the project. The Fujitsu SAN will be hosted at Tredex’s Sydney office.

The easy scalability of the Fujitsu Eternus3000 SAN will allow Tredex to add new applications as required. The company is considering linking its new telephone system to the SAN in the near future. “The Fujitsu SAN solution is the foundation for our storage infrastructure for the next five to six years,” said Holland. “We consider it a worthwhile investment for the longevity of our company.”
