NSW Roads and Traffic Authority appoints Fujitsu for seven-year technology outsourcing contract

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, March 03, 2005

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand has retained one of Australia's largest technology outsourcing contracts, being appointed to manage the data centre and related IT operations for the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).

Fujitsu has provided data centre outsourcing services to the RTA since 1997, achieving high levels of customer satisfaction and regularly achieving 100 per cent system uptime.

The RTA is the NSW Government authority responsible for promoting road safety, traffic management, driver licensing, and vehicle registration. It is also responsible for the direct or indirect management of almost 18,000km of state roads and national highways. It employs about 6,900 staff at more than 180 offices state-wide, including 129 motor registries.

The Authority has awarded Fujitsu a three-year contract for the provision of data centre outsourcing and related services. The new services will be operational from July 2005, after a transition period. The RTA has options to extend the new contract for a further four years.

Under the new contract, Fujitsu will continue to host approximately 800 corporate applications for the RTA from two state-of-the-art data centres in Sydney. These include the DRIVES information management system for vehicle licensing and registration, the Integrated Management System for RTA business operations, the Property Information and Management System and the Road Information Systems.

Fujitsu will also become the lead IT management provider with overall responsibility for managing the RTA's technology environment, from the data centre to its network and registry office operations. This environment includes approximately 5000 desktop computers in 220 locations, from major offices to road construction sites.

The RTA confirmed it had a very competitive offer from Fujitsu. "This will ensure that our IT systems continue to operate at the very high levels of reliability necessary to help manage the safe and efficient use of the road transport network - while reducing costs relating to our IT environment," said Greg Carvouni, the RTA's Chief Information Officer.

The RTA accepted Fujitsu's contract proposal because it offered a low level of risk combined with in-depth knowledge of the Authority's operations and business needs.

Rod Vawdrey, Chief Executive Officer, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said, "Fujitsu is extremely pleased to have held its place as the RTA's IT infrastructure provider. This contract demonstrates our ability to deliver through long-term partnerships with customers and to continue to innovate in terms of cost, service management and ultimately end-user performance."

Fujitsu also offered a customer-centric engagement model, providing the RTA with multiple points of expert contact across its support team, instead of a single relationship manager. The RTA further appreciated Fujitsu's commitment to the ITIL® (ITIL® is a Registered Trade Mark of AXELOS Limited) service management standards, which have delivered significant savings over the past two years, and Fujitsu's compliance with the ISO7799 risk management standard.
