Fujitsu goes further to support conservation initiatives

Fujitsu New Zealand Limited

Wellington, February 27, 2001

Fujitsu is proud to be a founding sponsor of the New Zealand National Parks and Conservation Foundation - just launched by Prime Minister Helen Clark - and is also going a step further with its staff volunteer programme.

The Foundation is an independent trust that has been established to encourage the private sector to invest in conservation initiatives through sponsorship opportunities, donations and legacies. Fujitsu New Zealand Limited became a founding member in December 2000.

Denis Marshall, Chair of the Foundation is delighted that Fujitsu is one of the founding sponsors. "It was vital for the success of the Foundation that we got sponsorship at the initial stage, and Fujitsu was one of the first organisations to make this commitment."

Rob James, Fujitsu's Commercial Manager says his company is also pleased to be a founding sponsor. However Fujitsu wanted to do more and so worked with the Foundation and the Department of Conservation to identify projects where its people could add value. The result was the establishment of the Fujitsu staff volunteer programme.

"We asked our staff if they would like to spend a day working on a Foundation project. The response was amazing with around 20% of our staff volunteering."

"We're proud that our staff and their families have chosen to make such a significant contribution to conservation in New Zealand. As a nationwide company we needed projects in each of the main centres, so we have planting and weeding projects on Motutapu Island, Mana Island and Quail Island."

"The volunteer program is a very fine example of corporate good citizenship. Fujitsu is leading the way here," said Denis Marshall.
