The 1990s
In 1990 Fujitsu Limited took a majority shareholding in ICL, beginning a strategic period for Fujitsu Limited as they strengthened their position and established their global brand in the European IT market, through acquisition and close cooperation with the leading European players.
Meanwhile Siemens AG also adjusted its portfolio and 1990 saw the creation of Siemens-Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG (SNI).
In 1991 Nokia Data’s Professional PC business was purchased by ICL.
In 1995 ASI Computer GmbH was acquired by ICL Volume Products. Its German manufacturing facility was now the base for production of Consumer PCs for Fujitsu across Europe.
In July 1996 Fujitsu ICL Computers was launched as a new European PC, notebook and server company responsible for development, manufacture and sales to the corporate, business and home markets.
In April 1998 Fujitsu ICL Computers changed its name to Fujitsu Computers Europe.
In 1999 Fujitsu Limited and Siemens AG established their Joint Venture to form Fujitsu Siemens Computers. The two companies merged most of their European computer operations. Capitalizing on the complementary strengths of each partner, an extensive development and mutual supply arrangement was established between the two partners and their group companies around the world. The new co-operation, which built on a close Fujitsu-Siemens relationship cultivated over more than two decades of technological exchange and strategic business collaboration in the computer field, greatly enhanced their ability to win and service major global IT accounts.
