Fujitsu Redefines Storage, Puts Business Priorities Ahead with New Generation ETERNUS DX Disk Systems

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, November 05, 2013

News facts:
-Revolutionary architecture delivers 5X performance increase, boosts system utilization up to 90 percent
-Automated quality of service management aligns storage performance with business priorities
-Seamless integration of block/file access with consolidated SAN/NAS storage connection.Fujitsu today introduces a new era of business-centric storage with next generation ETERNUS DX systems. In an industry first, business priorities are placed ahead of storage management to remove complexity and ease many common IT challenges, including the handling of ever increasing volumes of critical data. Completely flexible and adaptable to users’ business priorities, these new systems remove the technology barriers that have previously ruled the users.

The new ETERNUS DX disk systems enable storage professionals to seamlessly adapt to changing needs, delivering better service levels at lower cost. This results from a combination of advances, including a fivefold improvement in performance, intelligent data priority management, seamless integration and unified NAS and SAN functions. Now the ETERNUS system itself can shape backup according to business priorities and provide unmatched - across the range - support for data consolidation projects.

Models in the new range include entry level ETERNUS DX100 S3 and DX200 S3 systems and midrange ETERNUS DX500 S3 and DX600 S3 models.

For the first time, Fujitsu is also enabling storage professionals to boost system utilization up to 90 percent, breaking with conventional storage wisdom that system capacity should not exceed 50 percent to avoid slow system response times.

Combining significantly increased performance with business-centric, automated quality-of service management, the new Fujitsu ETERNUS DX systems deliver industry-leading performance, running at five times the IOPS, three times the bandwidth and double the bus performance of previous models. The entire ETERNUS DX line-up is based on the latest Intel multicore processors, featuring optimized multiprocessing and threading capabilities, bigger caches, the latest SAS3 drive interfaces and 16 GB Fibre Channel connectivity. The midrange models also provide additional flash caches for even faster data access.

Automated quality of service management removes the need to perform complex and costly tuning to set required response times for high-priority applications. This further increases operational efficiency and enables easier maintenance of critical service levels.

Unified storage with seamlessly integrated block and file access
All new ETERNUS DX systems can be configured as unified storage systems with seamlessly integrated block and file (SAN and NAS) capabilities. A major difference from simple gateway architectures, this unified functionality is integrated within the storage controllers. The result is a consistent user experience with the ability to share all high availability and failover functions for SAN and NAS operations across all storage controllers.

Easy to manage, the ETERNUS DX S3 systems share the same flexible family architecture, enabling seamless upgrades to bigger models within the range. This means investment protection and extensive scalability. In addition, the latest release of ETERNUS SF management software introduced with these new models also enhances the management functionality for customers with current Fujitsu ETERNUS DX S2 systems.
