Fujitsu has successfully completed Stage 2 of the 2023 NTIA 5G Challenge, in which the performance of Fujitsu's 4x4 Time Division Duplex (TDD) RU was evaluated in a wrap-around emulation environment. Fujitsu is participating in the challenge in collaboration with AT&T. The team now advances to Stage 3 of the challenge: end-to-end integration testing.

The NTIA 5G Challenge is a two-year competition that aims to accelerate the adoption of 5G open interfaces, interoperable subsystems, secure networks, and multi-vendor solutions. The challenge consists of multiple stages during which selected contestants are evaluated and prizes are awarded.

“The Fujitsu Open RAN RU is built on a commitment to enabling excellence in an open, multivendor ecosystem. As a leading 5G systems integrator and technology provider, we are honored to participate in this year's 5G Challenge,” said Greg Manganello, Senior Vice President of the Network and Software Integration Business Unit at Fujitsu. “We fully embrace NTIA's vision of advancing 5G interoperability towards true plug-and-play operation.”

“We're participating in this challenge because we're committed to Open RAN and its potential to drive network innovation,” said Lance Spencer, Client Executive Vice President-Defense, AT&T

Fujitsu previously won the 2022 NTIA 5G Challenge Emulation Integration Prize. AT&T is a founding member of the Open RAN Alliance™, Open Network Automation Platform, and Next G Alliance.
