Fujitsu launches the world’s smallest document scanner

The ultra-portable Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 comes armed with a new cloud service linking feature so you can scan and share on the go

Kuala Lumpur, February 23, 2011

Fujitsu, the market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced the availability of its latest portable mobile scanner to its ScanSnap lineup. Touted as world’s smallest scanners .((1)) , the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 is the first in its range to boast a linking function to popular cloud services including Google Docs, Evernote and Salesforce CRM. This allows users to seamlessly link and save their scanned image data.

The light-weight scanner features the same easy-to-use, one-touch scanning capabilities, packed with enhanced productivity features and added versatility. At approximately one quarter the size of the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300, the ultra-compact Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 is an easy solution for mobile users and business professionals. The S1100 features a manual Continuous Document Feeding (CDF) function which enables non-stop, smooth scanning of multi-page documents.

Equipped with the cloud service linking feature that significantly increases versatility and work efficiency throughout the entire scanning process, from pre-scanning to post scanning, the ScanSnap S1100 provides a truly unique scanning experience in terms of efficiency, reliability and ease of use.

“The new Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 mobile scanner is the perfect choice for busy business professionals who are looking for speed, efficiency and reliability when it comes to scanning on-the-go,” explains Janet Tan, Regional Director of Fujitsu Imaging Products. “With the new cloud service linking feature, Fujitsu is offering simple and convenient features that make it easy to scan and share.”

“We at Salesforce.com welcome the release of the ScanSnap S1100 and the new cloud service linking feature. By digitising business cards with the S1100 and then closely linking the data to Salesforce CRM, the work efficiency of users will improve, and their business and marketing activities will always be up to date and accurate. We look forward to seeing Salesforce CRM and S1100 become a powerful all-in-one cloud solution for the users,” said Eiji Uda, President & CEO, Salesforce.com Japan.

"We are very big fans on the entire line of ScanSnap scanners. They are a fantastic way to quickly digitise a wide range of documents and papers. The new integration with Evernote makes it incredibly easy to take those digitised documents and make them a part of an individual's permanent memory. We are excited that ScanSnap is bringing this useful functionality to its customers,” said Phil Libin, CEO, Evernote Corporation.

The key features of the new Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 include:

  • Smallest and lightest ScanSnap to date: The features of an A4 document scanner have been condensed into the smallest form factor possible for the S1100 (Approximately 1/4 the size and approximately 1/4 weight of the ScanSnap S1300). Add to that support for bus-powered operation through a single USB cable, and you have a handy digitising tool that you can use virtually anywhere.
  • Automated features for near effortless scanning: The ScanSnap S1100 features a powerful set of automated image processing functions, which includes Auto deskew, Auto orientation and Auto colour detection. These functions make pre-scan work like sorting out pages and changing scan settings unnecessary. With just a touch of the button, documents will be digitised to ensure the quality output including paper size detection, de-skewing, image orientation correction and blank page removal.
  • Seamless link to Cloud services: The S1100 is the first ScanSnap to come with a linking function to popular cloud survives including Google docs, Evernote and Salesforce CRM. Users can seamlessly link and save their scanned data virtually anywhere and anytime with ease.
  • ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap: ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap allows users to be productive by quickly transforming documents into editable Word and Excel files at the push of a button.
  • Intelligent Indexing: This S1100 feature automatically takes highlighted words or sections of documents and converts them into searchable keywords after Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing in order to make your PDF file searches easier and faster.
  • Scans plastic cards and other various document types: In addition to standard paper types, the S1100 can also scan plastic cards, similar to the ones used for membership IDs.
  • Continuous Document Feeding (CDF Function): The S1100 delivers a snappy 7.5 seconds/page (approximately 8ppm) scanning for A4 size documents and uses the same automated functions found in the other ScanSnap models to make sorting pages and changing scan settings every time you make a scan unnecessary. Pushing the Scan button to starts the nearly effortless scanning process, and with the Continuous Document Feeding function multiple page documents can be speedily digitised like a full Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) scanner.
