Fujitsu Malaysia Launches ETERNUS2000 SAN System

Entry-level pricing with enterprise-class performance for storage environments

Kuala Lumpur, July 20, 2007

Leading IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Malaysia today announced the ETERNUS2000 disk array storage system for Malaysia market.

Comprising two models (namely Model200 and Model100), the ETERNUS2000 is an entry-level storage area network (SAN) solution that offers enterprise-class performance to meet the needs of large enterprises as well as small- and medium-sized businesses.

Expandability, performance and connectivity

The Model200 and Model100 offer maximum storage capacities of 54 terabytes (TB) and 18TB respectively. Large cache sizes of 4 gigabytes (GB) and 2GB respectively also ensure that the systems’ performance remains high even as usage levels are scaled up.

The systems also support Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives (HDDs) with a maximum spindle speed of 15,000 revolutions per minute (rpm), or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) HDDs rated at 7,200 rpm or lower.

Engineered with a fibre channel host interface with a maximum throughput of 4 gigabits per second (Gbps), the ETERNUS2000 is compatible with the Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems, and supports Fujitsu’s PrimeQuest, Primergy and SPARC Enterprise server lines as well as various server lines by other vendors.

Reliability

The Model200 and Model100 are engineered with hot-swappable key components such as controllers, power supply units and fans, to eliminate system downtimes during power failures. Firmware can also be added on-the-fly without disrupting system operations.

Other features for enhanced reliability include verification checks to ensure data consistency, as well as independent disk array support to improve fault tolerance.

Flexibility

The Model200 and Model100 are designed with features for ease of setup and operation. Such features include:

  • multiple backup and copy options
  • tools for performing system maintenance with minimal downtimes
  • user-friendly interfaces

In addition, the rotation of individual HDDs can be halted when the disks are not accessed, to reduce operating noise and lower power consumption. The ETERNUS2000 has been built with a single-chip independent disk array controller with 60 per cent fewer parts and a smaller circuit board. This breakthrough architectural design allows the system to consume 40 per cent less power than the earlier ETERNUS4000 range that was released last year.

The Model200 and Model100 are priced starting at US$11,000 and US$8,000 respectively. Both models will be available for Malaysia market from end-August. Visit http://my.fujitsu.com or call 03-8318 3700 for more information.
