Kuala Lumpur, May 16, 2006
Leading IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Malaysia today unveiled the PRIMEQUEST™ 420 midrange server for Intel® Itanium® 2-based systems running Linux or Windows Server 2003 platforms.
Similar to the PRIMEQUEST™ 440 and PRIMEQUEST™ 480 servers that were launched in May 2005, the PRIMEQUEST™ 420 combines high system scalability with data centre-class fault immunity, thus offering enterprises the flexibility of industry-standard solutions without compromising business continuity.
The PRIMEQUEST™ 420 supports a maximum of eight Intel® Itanium® 2 processors rated at 1.5 GHz or 1.6 GHz. In comparison, its predecessors the PRIMEQUEST™ 440 and PRIMEQUEST™ 480 support up to 16 and 32 Intel® Itanium® 2 processors respectively. The PRIMEQUEST™ 420 thus represents an ideal server solution for customers who require modest computing needs with mainframe-class reliability and reduced operational costs.
Like its predecessors, the PRIMEQUEST™ 420 incorporates two key technologies – System Mirror and Flexible Input/Output (FIO) – to maximise system availability. System Mirror, enabled by dual synchronous system architecture, allows memory modules and crossbar interconnects to operate in duplex mode and isolates errors without causing a system halt; while FIO allows I/O resources to be dynamically allocated based on real-time performance requirements, thus reducing maintenance downtime and avoiding disruptions to business operations. The PRIMEQUEST™ 420 server architecture also provides up to two hardware-isolated partitions, each of which functions like a fully independent “server” within the system, for excellent fault immunity.
The PRIMEQUEST™ 420 has a high-density rack-mount form factor which allows it to fit on the same rack with other servers, storage systems and network equipment. In addition, the power consumption of the PRIMEQUEST 420™ is only one-third that of the PRIMEQUEST™ 440. The compact, power-saving design allows users to realise cost and space savings that reduce the total cost of ownership.
“With our longstanding expertise in mainframes, Fujitsu offers unparalleled reliability for industry-standard operating systems. Like the PRIMEQUEST 440 and PRIMEQUEST 480, the PRIMEQUEST 420 offers mission-critical computing on both Linux and Windows Server 2003 platforms, and is poised to deliver the high availability and low total cost of ownership that customers demand,” said Mr Uno Motohiko, Head, Regional Marketing Group, Fujitsu Asia.
The PRIMEQUEST™ server line is offered as part of the Fujitsu TRIOLE strategy for optimising customers’ IT infrastructures comprising servers, storage systems, networks and middleware. Based on TRIOLE, Fujitsu designs, develops and deploys highly reliable, business-critical data centres in heterogeneous environments to increase business continuity, agility and efficiency. The PRIMEQUEST™ 420 is priced starting from S$110,000 and will be available for the ASEAN (including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam) and India markets with immediate effect.
