Kuala Lumpur, December 02, 2005 Volunteers from FMS

Fujitsu Malaysia Group of Companies continuously support the 5th reforestation volunteer activity implemented by Fujitsu Limited in “Fujitsu Group Malaysia Eco-Forest Park” at Kinarut, Sabah from November 24 to 27 for 4 days.

Malaysia's forests have been decimated by slash-burn agriculture, commercial deforestation and palm-oil plantations, therefore restoring the forest has become an urgent concern. In view of the increased ruined area in Kinarut, Sabah due to commercial deforestation, forest fires, vegetation area other than the species endemic to the land, Sabah Forestry Development Authority(“SAFODA”) has been trying to recover original forest with support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (“JICA”) in the development of tree-planting technology and training of technicians.

About 140 volunteers, including 28 Fujitsu volunteers from Japan and 24 volunteers from Fujitsu Malaysia Group of Companies together with other participate planted about 4,000 saplings of Dipterocarpaceaes in lands of 20 hectares. University Malaysia Sabah students, who are using this area for study, and employees of Advantest Group also participated in the activity following the previous reforestation activity in January 2005.

This dispatch of volunteers is the fifth since this activity began in 2002, by an umbrella organization that includes Fujitsu Limited as well as its group companies and Fujitsu labor union, with support from the Sabah State government, Malaysia, the Japan International Forestry Promotion & Cooperation Center (JIFPRO) and the Japanese Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu. The operating fund, which cover the preparation and maintenance of the reforestation of the species endemic to the land, is gathered via the donation from over 10,000 Fujitsu Group employees. Besides, Fujitsu employees also experienced the reforestration activity on volunteer basis.

In the area where reforestation is completed, environmental education for visitors has been started and is expected to be utilized for eco-tourism activity, including economic circulation in the future. Fujitsu Group will continue to play an active role in afforestation projects and other types of international environmental projects in the future.
