Introduction of NetMap Data Analytics Software Solution

Kuala Lumpur, September 28, 2005

Fujitsu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd today introduces a unique data analysis tool from its partner, NetMap Analytics of NSW, Australia. Fujitsu has been appointed by NetMap Analytics as their distributor for the Asean region.

The global proliferation of data is both an opportunity and a challenge for most organizations. Today, more data often impedes, rather than enhances, decision-making. Leading firms in every industry struggle to wade through and interpret massive amounts of data in the quest to understand their customers and markets, to gain competitive advantage, and to spot subtle trends and patterns that can affect bottom-line performance.

NetMap is a tool that performs "Node and Link" analysis on data for complex problems. This is very different from the typical statistical data analysis that companies would perform in a Data Warehouse or with a Decision Support System. "Node and Link" analysis is used to find patterns and relationships in data. The reason one might want to find patterns and relationships in data could be:

  • To show quantifiably how well an acquired company has been integrated into its new parent via employee communication patterns.
  • Discovering market segments that self-define according to their attitudes towards certain brands, or other patterns of behavior.
  • Discovering where a database is losing data integrity, or has dirty data and identifying all records that need correction.
  • To determine if it is cheaper to replace, or maintain existing plant assets.
  • Streamlining A/P and ensuring that all suppliers are delivering value for money
  • Eliminating non-compliance of policies, for example over-servicing or by vendors.
  • Discovering the weak link in a network or closed system based on failure patterns.
  • Discovering fraud in; transactions, billing, payroll and retail shrinkage
  • As a tool for complex investigations - police cases, money laundering, identity theft

Traditional statistical analysis is typically based on applying "rules" to data and then producing exception reports. The problem is, one must know precisely how to define exceptions, in order to count or quantify them. This is where NetMap is different:

  • NetMap will determine what is normal and what is abnormal based on the data - no "rules" are required to be specified.
  • Because no rules are imposed, there is no constraint on the answers.
  • NetMap uses the information contained in the data, and in the averages, sums or counts of the items, but it also maps the connections between pieces of data, uses location or geographical information and shows pattern shifts over time.
  • If the environment is continually changing (such as, with people who commit illegal activities to stay one step ahead of the law) it is very difficult to keep pace using the traditional method of analysis because the rules keep changing and the analyst rarely knows how clever fraudsters have changed and adapted to the current environment.
  • Much of the data within organizations today is unstructured. Traditional analysis methods are unable to cope with this type of data, NetMap can !

In today's interconnected world, indirect - and often hidden - links exist between seemingly unrelated facts, events and individuals. Without seeing and understanding these invisible links, it's impossible to build a strategy to manage or leverage them. NetMap finds these links and patterns and hence unlocks your data and the meaning within your data.
