Fujitsu, the leading provider of business, information technology and communications solutions, today announced the enrolment of a management scholarship for the 28th East-West Knowledge Leaders Program (EWKLP) 2012 at the JAIMS (Japan-American Institute of Management Science) in Hawaii, United States.
The Fujitsu EWKLP scholarship is eligible for Indonesian citizens and will be open for applicants until November 30, 2011. The EWKLP is a three months course intended to sharpen one's global business savvy, and build confidence for dealing with global business situations with a solid academic foundation complemented by a practice-based experiential learning environment. The curriculum will challenge students to integrate theory and practice, and will provide them with a broad foundation for innovative thinking.
“As the manifestation of Fujitsu’s stance on social contribution, this scholarship program aims to provide opportunities for all communities in Asia Pacific to contribute to the region, through the learning of values and cultural diversity in the context of global business,” said Achmad S. Sofwan, President Director Fujitsu Indonesia. “We have offered the scholarship to 416 professionals in Asia Pacific, of which 68 of them are from Indonesia. In the 27th program year 2011, Fujitsu sent four students from Indonesia. The Fujitsu scholarship is a valuable opportunity to develop leadership for Indonesian business practitioners.”
The 28th EWKLP consist of two terms, the Spring Term and the Fall Term. Today, Fujitsu announced the enrolment for Spring Term starting from April 9th, 2012 until July 17th, 2012. After the lecture session in Hawaii, participants will be invited to Japan to participate in various activities related to cultural, visit to Fujitsu facilities and attending the awarding event.
Gede Krishna Jaya, 27th JAIMS EWKLP Spring 2011 alumnus, cited the core courses in business management, such as marketing, finance and strategy were mixed well with special courses such as negotiation, leadership and ethics. The instructors, who came from various universities and countries, had very good experience and knowledge, not only on research areas but also on practical business issues.
“The diverse background of participants who came from 12 different countries was also very positive to simulate real global business environment. I met with a group of bright students from other Asian countries, which really helped me in understanding different way of thinking about current business issues and multicultural aspects in global networking. In summary, EWKLP was appropriate leadership course for professionals who want to enrich their knowledge and leadership skill to prepare themselves for future leadership roles in global business and society.”
At the EWKLP Spring 2011, Gede who is currently the Division Head Prepaid Brand Management PT Indosat Tbk, was awarded with the High Distinction remark, given to the student who scored 3.80 or above out of 4.0 scale.
Nurman Numeiri, also a JAIMS EWKLP alumnus, said the program was not only enriching the students with compact but advanced business material, it also broadened the horizon to understand the culture of each country which influences the business atmosphere.
“I still use the class material and technique of problem solving as my reference for my daily work. It has also expanded my horizon of business issue into global understanding. Not only that, the EWKLP gave me the bond between students from different countries that I am sure will benefit me not only today, but also in the future, for real business engage-ments,” told Nurman who is working as Head of Energy and Telematics at PT Jasa Sarana.
The Fujitsu Scholarship covers tuition and fees, stipend toward living expenses, airfare and health insurance. Veranita Yosephine, alumnus JAIMS EWKLP Spring 2010, pointed that the program was a rigorous yet exciting devel-opment program which had not only helped her gain stronger business acumen but also allowed her to engage in diverse environment so as to enhance her cultural sensitivity. The exchanging of real practical experience with resourceful and like-minded classmates from nine different countries –of professional backgrounds ranging from management consulting, advertising, banking to non-profit organizations– in only four months was just enough to subsequently go back to work and directly practice what she had learnt.
“I had been looking for more pragmatic and experiential method of sharpening business skills and there I found it in EWKLP,” said Verantia who is now the Regional Sales Director at Danone.
Charita, alumnus JAIMS EWKLP, conveyed this program offers us the experience that was unlike other business schools because it broadens our perspectives about the importance of understanding cultural diversity in the business world. The interaction among students from Asia Pacific and European countries was the on-hands life experience that any business ideas to be shared and explored would not be rich without the open minds of understanding the each different cultural backgrounds, which is in reality they are our colleagues, business partners, customers, and even our competitors.
“It was the life changing moment for most of us and the best moment ever with the everlasting friendship,” said Charita, who is now working as Assistant Vice President, Head of Relationship Citi At Work, Citibank NA.
To apply for the Fujitsu Scholarship, participants must meet the qualifications for both Fujitsu Scholarship and EWKLP as follows:
- A bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- A minimum TOEFL score of 577/233/90(paper/computer/Internet), TOEIC score of 750, or IELTS overall band test result of 6.5 or higher.
- A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience (five years preferred) at the time of appli-cation.
Fujitsu established this scholarship program in 1985 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding. The scholarship is aimed to provide the opportunity for people from the Asia-Pacific region to contribute to their home countries by studying cross-cultural management at JAIMS. The EWKLP features a course on knowledge management and innovation taught by JAIMS President Ikujiro Nonaka, who has been ranked as one of the “20 Influential Business Thinkers” by the Wall Street Journal, along with Bill Gates, Jack Welch, and Richard Branson.
