Fujitsu Launches ARROWS NX F-05F Smartphone

Super ATOK ULTIAS delivers high-level character input

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, May 26, 2014

Fujitsu today announced the new docomo Smartphone ARROWS NX F-05F will be available in Japan as of May 30, 2014 from NTT DOCOMO, Inc. dealerships.

The ARROWS NX F-05F comes with the Japanese character input system Super ATOK ULTIAS to deliver the highest level of smartphone character input. It is equipped with a touchscreen panel that helps prevent incorrect inputs as well as a user interface that allows for easy text editing. These additions enable an unprecedented level of text-based communication.

The new smartphone is equipped with the WhiteMagic™ next-generation display, which conserves power while delivering a bright, easy-to-view screen, even under direct sunlight, and also has a large capacity 3,200 mAh battery. With finely tuned low power consumption control delivered through Fujitsu's proprietary Human Centric Engine technology, the battery can last for over three days.

In addition, this smartphone comes with an abundance of high-spec features, including a 20.7 megapixel high-performance camera, which produces bright, beautiful images, even in dark locations, a smart fingerprint sensor and other security functions for peace of mind. The handset is VoLTE compatible(1) providing high-quality voice clarity and is also water resistant.

The typical smartphone user in Japan spends a majority of their time emailing, communicating on social networks, posting blogs, and on other forms of communication using Japanese character input. In accordance with this trend, however, 80% of customers feel stress as a result of the difficulties of character-based input using smartphones(2). Either the desired words do not come up, or mistakes arise when inputting, or editing is difficult. These problems result in a growing need for character input features that are easy to use.

Fujitsu has responded by introducing the ARROWS NX F-05F. It is equipped with Super ATOK ULTIAS, which has a clever Japanese character conversion function that displays predicted word selections appropriate to the context, and has enhanced features for correcting input errors. Another feature is how the installed dictionary gets updated approximately every other day with the latest keywords(3), a function that is free for the user. It is also equipped with the Premium Saku-Saku Touchpanel, which has improved resistance to electrical noise – a common cause of input errors, thereby delivering an improved user experience. It also allows users to edit, in any way they like, the display layout and the size of the drop-down feature for range selection, for more convenient operation. All of these features make character input easier.

Product Features

Easy-to-use character entry for input precision

This smartphone comes equipped with Super ATOK ULTIAS, a version of ATOK developed for the smartphone, to deliver all-time high levels of Japanese character input. With a clever conversion function powered by a high performance engine equivalent to ATOK's PC version and one of the largest vocabularies in the history of any smartphone(4), words and phrases that the user wishes to write are displayed as conversion options, and even if there is an input error, the predicted correct entry is displayed as a conversion option.

By analyzing minute finger movements and slips, it will accurately determine the intended location, and it also eliminates electrical noise that causes inaccurate touch readings. It is equipped with a Premium Saku-Saku Touchpanel for enhanced operational precision, a touch parameter mode specifically optimized for character input, and a learning function that allows smooth flick input, thereby making character input easier and more convenient.

Furthermore, Fujitsu has taken care to deliver a user interface that enables the preferred characters to be entered with such functions as the ability to expand the drop-down feature for cursor movements when entering characters, and the ability to recover mistakenly deleted characters. It also has a function that, when brackets are entered, automatically transfers the cursor to within the brackets, and a feature that enables text within an image to be copied just by tracing.

New WhiteMagic™ energy-efficient display, easily viewable under direct sunlight

The smartphone is equipped with the energy-efficient WhiteMagic™ display with support for full HD. With the highest level of brightness among docomo smartphones(5), at 1,000 candelas, it is easily viewable, even under direct sunlight. This brightness allows users to comfortably enjoy the internet, emails, texts, photos, and HD-quality television streaming using Full-Seg.

In addition to being bright, it consumes up to 50% less power compared to ordinary smartphones. With its large-capacity 3,200mAh battery and the Human Centric Engine's finely tuned power consumption controls, the battery life can comfortably exceed over three days.

20.7 megapixel high-performance camera, top class among docomo smartphones(6), produces bright, beautiful images, even in dark locations

An approximately 20.7 megapixel camera equipped with an Exmor RS for mobile 1/2.3" CMOS sensor, and a slim and high-performance lens make it is possible to shoot bright, beautiful images in a variety of settings and places, including in dark locations. Moreover, with the GRANVU image processing engine and warm color flash, it is possible to capture natural colors in photographs just the way they are seen.

High-spec capabilities

It supports VoLTE, which is voice communications over the LTE high-speed data network. It is also equipped with a Multi-Connection function that enables simultaneous connection to LTE/3G and Wi-Fi to make it easy for users to browse the internet, download apps, and enjoy videos using a stress-free, stable connection.

It is also equipped with a smart fingerprint sensor that can unlock the phone with one finger, as well as many other features, including Android™ 4.4, a 2.3GHz Quadcore CPU (MSM8974AB), water resistance (IPX5/8)(7), infrared, NFC, Osaifu-Keitai, One-Seg and Full-Seg, an FM transmitter, DLNA (DTCP+ compatible), Miracast, and Bluetooth® 4.0.
