[2] Improvement of international science innovation bases using local resources under industry-university collaboration
A program organized by MEXT to promote, through the flexible use of local resources, "international science innovation bases," where interdisciplinary R&D for innovative projects is performed under industry-academy-government collaboration to create new industries and new jobs.
[3] Center of Innovation Stream
A program organized by MEXT and the Japan Science and Technology Agency that: (i) based on emerging future needs of society, sets a vision of the way society and people's way of life should be; (ii) identifies likely R&D challenges ten years from now based on this vision; (iii) breaks out of the traditional frameworks of existing research fields and organizations; and (iv) provides intensive support for industry-academia R&D collaboration, from basic research to practical application.
[4] K computer
The K computer, which was jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu, is part of the High-Performance Computing Infrastructure (HPCI) initiative led by MEXT. It is a 10 petaflop-class supercomputer, and its availability for shared use began in September 2012.
