Fujitsu Aims to Revolutionize Logistics with New "Logifit" Series Solutions

As first offering, Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI leverages frontline logistics data to help cut costs and improve quality

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, August 23, 2012

Fujitsu today announced the introduction of its new Logifit series of logistics solutions that seek to revolutionize the logistics industry.

Today Fujitsu begins sales in Japan of the first solution in the series, Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI, a logistics key performance indicator (KPI) software package that improves management through the use of frontline logistics data. Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI takes performance data from the logistics front lines, such as information on incoming shipments and outgoing delivery operations or delivery time performance data, and then combines it with sales and other data from the main operations system to evaluate and analyze KPIs for logistics, such as the ratio of operational costs to sales or shipment costs to sales. By enabling users to perform their own analyses on a wide range of factors that affect underlying performance, it helps to reduce logistics costs as well as the ratios of missing goods and accidents.

In recent years, in accordance with the spread of private brands, the aging of consumers, and the increase in the number of people using online shopping, the logistics environment has been undergoing changes on many levels, including direct shipments from manufacturers or retailers, shipments to individual consumers, and the diversification of the items handled. To keep pace with these changes while reducing logistics costs and improving quality, it is necessary to improve logistics operations in concert with each aspect of frontline operations.

To support customers' overall logistics operations, Fujitsu has developed its new Logifit series of logistics solutions. By bringing together data on warehousing, shipping, and logistics costs for unified management and analysis, the Logifit series seeks to improve overall management of logistics operations.

Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI takes performance data which up until now has not been used effectively and has been difficult to evaluate and analyze for problem solving, and combines it with sales and other data for analysis. This helps to cut costs and raise quality by helping to uncover the underlying issues affecting performance.

Features of the Logifit Series

Starting with today's release of Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI, which covers logistics management systems, the Logifit series is scheduled to include products covering warehouse management systems and transportation management systems, thereby bringing together the systems and unifying the data for the whole logistics operations to enable users to keep pace with the changing logistics environment.

This brings about the following benefits:

  1. By taking performance data from each logistics operations system and reflecting it in real time in management systems, the software makes operations visible, bring about efficiencies and cost reductions.
  2. It enables customers to deploy the logistics system functions they want in a short period of time.
  3. Rather than just logistics companies, companies that outsource their shipment operations can also use it as their logistics system.

Features of Logifit/LM Butsuryu KPI

1. Sets key performance indicators for logistics

It takes performance data from the logistics front lines and combines it with sales and other data from the main operations system to enable the evaluation and analysis of the key performance indicators for logistics that are set as a standard feature of the software. This enables the performance of analyses that were often inadequately performed in the past, such as analyses of the ratio of operational costs to sales or shipment costs to sales.

2. Can be used from multiple perspectives

Each user, from upper management to the logistics front lines, can easily set the key performance indicators he or she wants to see. Because each key performance indicator is evaluated and displayed with symbols indicating good, average, or poor performance, users and quickly and easily grasp which performance values are out of line.

3. Enables quick detection of problems and grasp of underlying causes

Using the KPIs and analytical perspective developed by Fujitsu, the underlying causes affecting performance can be uncovered so that users can be clearly informed of points requiring improvement.
