Fujitsu today announced the immediate worldwide availability of Systemwalker Service Quality Coordinator V15, a software tool for analyzing response times and bottlenecks in business systems.
By analyzing the performance of business systems, including private cloud environments, Systemwalker Service Quality Coordinator V15 is able to identify performance bottlenecks, map out strategies for eliminating these bottlenecks, and recommend how many servers are needed for the customer's virtual environment. The new software leverages Fujitsu's proprietary analysis technologies(1), along with the know-how the company has cultivated in cloud operations, in order to identify problems relating to virtual resources on a private cloud, in addition to business application processing performance issues. With this information in hand, the tool can make recommendations about the amount of virtual resources needed for each business application and the server configuration that best serves these needs.
As a result, the new software helps customers maintain superior service quality for their business systems and stable system operations, while at the same time supporting customers in optimizing their system investments.
Furthermore, through the use of a smart setup feature that has been developed based on Fujitsu's smart software technology(2), the new software is able to automate operational tasks such as compiling reports for all users.
In recent years, a growing number of customers have been pursuing server consolidation using a private cloud with the aim of utilizing their ICT resources in an effective manner. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly challenging to monitor the status of how resources are shared between multiple business applications and to isolate problems when they occur.
Since 2010, Fujitsu has offered software to support the development and operation of private cloud environments. Moreover, through its portfolio of cloud assets—including the FGCP/S5 public cloud service and Numazu Software Development Cloud Center, one of Fujitsu's software development centers—the company has put its cloud operations expertise to use in its capacities as both a provider and user of cloud services.
Bringing together the analysis technologies and know-how it has honed through this experience, Fujitsu is releasing Systemwalker Service Quality Coordinator V15, which supports companies in effectively employing their ICT resources, even within a complex private cloud environment.
Product Features
1. Enables easy and burden-free analysis of response times and bottlenecks in business systems
Using Fujitsu's proprietary analysis technologies that have been commercialized through the company's experience in cloud operations, the software isolates bottlenecks, including those stemming from inadequate processing power or competition for virtual resources among a business system's web servers, application servers, and database servers. This capability has been developed through testing using approximately 90 different evaluation model patterns to determine the relationship between a business system's performance and its virtual resources. The results of these tests were then systematized into roughly 180 analysis scenarios. By incorporating this know-how into the new software, it is now possible to automatically isolate problem areas without having to perform complicated monitoring.
Until now, identifying bottlenecks in a business system running on a virtual environment with a complicated configuration of ICT resources and applications has required specialized skills and the aggregation of transaction data (transaction logs and packet capturing), a process that imposes a significant burden on business systems. Consequently, it has been difficult to perform analysis while a system is in operation. With Fujitsu's new software tool, however, analysis is performed using only regularly collected web logs and information related to physical and virtual resources, thereby reducing the load on the business system to less than 2% of CPU capacity(3) and making it possible to perform analysis while the system is in use.
Moreover, in order to eliminate bottlenecks, the software is able to verify in advance the response times that can be expected if additional web servers, application servers, or database servers were to be added, or what the effect would be if changes were made to the configuration of the virtual environment.
2. Calculates the optimal number of servers needed when migrating from a physical to a virtual environment
When preparing to migrate from a physical environment to a virtual environment, the software keeps tabs on system load levels according to the day of the week and time of day. This, in turn, enables the tool to provide an analysis that presents a realistic picture of how a system is actually used, as well as making it possible to automatically calculate the number of servers that will be needed after the migration. Boasting a track record of deployment by over 200 customers, the analysis technology employed in the software not only supports physical-to-virtual migrations but also upgrades to virtual environments.
During a test study at Fujitsu's data center, the software was able to improve CPU utilization from roughly 30% to 60%, making it possible to reduce the overall number of servers at the data center by half.
