Fujitsu Releases New White Model "Raku-Raku" Basic 3 Mobile Phone

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, February 13, 2012

Fujitsu today announced the addition of a new white color model to its lineup of Raku-Raku Basic 3 mobile phones. The new color will be available in Japan from NTT DOCOMO, Inc starting February 17, 2012.

Raku-Raku (meaning "easy-to-use" in Japanese) Basic 3, initially released in April 2011, was the first of its kind to feature a single special instructions button that connects to a dedicated phone center for easy-to-understand guidance about the phone's operating procedures. By employing a special casing material that does not require a coating of paint, the handset remains attractive throughout its life cycle as flaws due to unsightly paint peeling are difficult to notice.

Since its debut in September 2001, the Raku-Raku Phone series has been a huge hit, particularly among its main target audience of senior citizen users. In September 2011, the series recorded a milestone of 20 million units sold. Apart from the rapidly expanding market for smartphones, there are many customers who are long-time users of mobile phone models most familiar to them, like the Raku-Raku Phone.

The newly introduced white model is the first of Fujitsu's mobile phones to employ a special casing material that prevents surface color paint from peeling, thereby making scratches and flaws difficult to notice so that the handset remains appealing throughout its usage life.

In expanding its existing popular lineup (gold, navy, and pink) to include 4 colors in total, Fujitsu aims to respond to the needs of an even greater number of customers.

Product Features

1. Scratches and dents do not stand out (limited to the new white model)

The new white model employs a special casing material that prevents surface paint from peeling, even if scratched or dented, so that the handset will remain attractive throughout its usage life. Using this material means unsightly scratches or dents will be difficult to notice.

2. Advanced 5.1-megapixel "Smart Camera"

Smile detector
This feature automatically trips the shutter when it detects that the subjects are smiling, thereby capturing the perfect smile.

Automatic scene recognition
The camera automatically recognizes different scenes, such as landscapes, portraits, night scenes, and close-up shots, and changes shooting modes accordingly. It can also automatically recognize QR (quick response) codes.

High-sensitivity mode equivalent to ISO 12800(1)
The camera can shoot in the dark and produce bright photos without blurring.

Tracking focus
The tracking focus captures subjects in motion and is best-suited for photographing children and pets.

3. "Raku-Raku Site Button"

Very popular among seniors is the "Raku-Raku Site Button," which enables them to enjoy i-mode. By simply pressing the "Raku-Raku Site Button," users can easily access the Raku-Raku i-menu(2) in a large, easy-to-read font.

4. Voice balance for easy listening

With age, at times it becomes difficult to distinguish high-pitched sounds. Based on the user's age range(3), the voice balance feature automatically accentuates the high-pitched portions of the sound of the other person's voice, making it easier to hear.

5. Simple Deco-mail® enables automatic e-mail decorations

After composing a message and selecting the Simple Deco-mail(4) menu option, users can automatically create elaborately decorated messages.

6. Hearing aid feature

Simply by connecting a set of earphones(5) to the mobile phone, the sound volume of the surrounding environment is easier to hear. This feature is perfect for use when watching TV, talking with family and friends, or when it is difficult to hear.
