Fujitsu Launches SaaS-based Dinner Delivery Solution to Support the Dietary Needs of the Elderly

Enables rapid, low-cost establishment of delivery businesses, a field set for widespread expansion

Tokyo and Hiroshima, June 30, 2011

Fujitsu and Fujitsu Chugoku Systems Limited today announced they have commenced sales of a new SaaS-based solution for dinner home deliveries in Japan to support businesses delivering meals.

The new service, which is designed for businesses that deliver boxed dinners primarily to the elderly for whom such needs are expanding, enables comprehensive management of all processes, including member data, orders, deliveries, and fee collection.

By providing the service as a SaaS-based solution that uses Fujitsu datacenters, customer businesses can quickly and economically start up their deliveries without having to build their own ICT systems. Moreover, by employing a usage-based fee system tied to the quantity of meals delivered, the service enables customers to optimize the efficiency of their ICT costs.

With Japan's rapidly aging population and rising number of people living on their own or who are homebound, there is an increasing need for businesses that deliver boxed dinners to registered members of their meal services. To set up such a business, however, requires the ability to manage a variety of different information, such as member data, orders, deliveries, delivery contractor data, payments, invoices, and collections. Moreover, deploying one's own ICT system to handle such data takes time and entails high upfront costs.

To overcome these problems, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Chugoku Systems are offering a new SaaS-based dinner delivery solution to support businesses that deliver meals to homes. Customers such as Co-op Yamaguchi, Seikyo Hiroshima, and Consumer Co-operative Kobe are already using packaged software solutions from Fujitsu for these operations, and the new SaaS-based service builds on the know-how Fujitsu has gained in this area.

Features of the New Service

1. Enables rapid start-up of delivery businesses

This SaaS-based service builds on Fujitsu's abundant track record of system deployments of packaged solutions for this type of business, thus making it possible for businesses to be up and running quickly.

2. Enables access to ICT resources at low cost

Offered as a SaaS-based service that uses Fujitsu's highly-reliable cloud environment, there is no need for expensive upfront ICT investments.

3. Uses on-demand, usage-based fee structure

A low monthly basic charge plus a usage-based fee linked to the quantity of meals delivered allows customers to optimize their ICT costs efficiently.
