Fujitsu PROBANK Renewed as Saikyo Bank's Core Banking System

Helping one of Japan's second-tier regional banks improve community-based services

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, May 11, 2011

Fujitsu today announced that the Saikyo Bank, Ltd. has renewed its contract to utilize PROBANK, Fujitsu's outsourcing service for core banking functions, for the bank's next core banking system. Renewed operations will start in January 2014.

Starting in January 2006, Fujitsu has been providing Saikyo Bank with PROBANK for over five years on a consistent basis as the bank's core banking system, thereby helping Saikyo Bank provide the community-based financial products and services that are characteristic of Japan's second-tier regional banks. Based on Saikyo Bank's high appraisal of Fujitsu's track record of ongoing support, the bank has renewed PROBANK for its next banking system cycle.

Alongside Saikyo Bank, other banks such as Toho Bank, Ltd. and Shimizu Bank, Limited, have also announced their intentions to renew their PROBANK contracts. With the ongoing growth and expansion of the PROBANK service, Fujitsu will continue to help banks address management issues as a partner of Japan's regional banks and second-tier regional banks.

Background

Based on its medium-term management plan, which emphasizes services "for all customers and the community," and its plan for promoting community-based financial services, Saikyo Bank is engaged in a number of initiatives to improve community-based services, such as enhancing its important role in facilitating the financing of small businesses, improving customer convenience, and strengthening management. Based on its high appraisal of Fujitsu's track record of support and PROBANK's contribution to the further improvement of community-based services as an ICT platform, Saikyo Bank made the decision to continue with PROBANK.

Factors Behind Saikyo Bank's PROBANK Contract Renewal

1. Contribution to Improvement of Community-Based Services

Saikyo Bank provides timely financial products and services at the local level, helping with community revitalization. This includes passes for regional events including the National Sports Festival and the National Sports Festival for the Disabled in Yamaguchi Prefecture. As well, Saikyo Bank became the first bank in the Chugoku region located in western Japan to partner with Aeon Bank, Ltd. in offering reciprocal free ATM services within designated hours for customers of either institution.

Fujitsu has maximized the unique flexibility and scalability of PROBANK to enhance Saikyo Bank's community-based services. The next generation of PROBANK will continue supporting the rapid development of financial products and services and meeting the needs of Saikyo Bank's customers.

2. Strengthening Internal Controls

Since starting operations of PROBANK for Saikyo Bank, Fujitsu has continuously provided stable operations while maintaining the system's superior levels of security, robustness, and reliability. Additionally, with the cooperation of its financial institution clientele, Fujitsu conducts periodic system audits and system-wide statistical assessments, and even has external auditors conduct regular audits. Fujitsu's high inspection and security standards have been highly lauded by the banks who utilize its services. Fujitsu will continue to ensure that the next generation of PROBANK will further service and strengthen Saikyo Bank's management systems.

3. Environmental Considerations

Saikyo Bank is committed to environmental sustainability. It is keen to expand its eco-friendly financial products and services, and is actively promoting steps to reduce its environmental impact. The next generation of PROBANK will be built on the latest ICT platform comprised of Fujitsu GS21 series global servers, SPARC Enterprise series UNIX servers, and ETERNUS series storage systems, cutting power consumption and CO2 emissions for the overall system by 10% compared to the previous version.

Toho Bank and Shimizu Bank have already decided to renew their contracts for PROBANK. Fujitsu will continue to expand and develop PROBANK as a core bank outsourcing service for Japan's regional banks and second-tier regional banks by adding new services and functions, such as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and maintaining its 24/7 nonstop reliability.
