Fujitsu to Take Part in Events Held Alongside COP10 Biodiversity Conference

Fujitsu today announced that it will participate in events held in conjunction with the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will take place in Nagoya, Japan from October 18 to October 29.

Fujitsu will host a forum for conference participants to highlight the Fujitsu Group's biodiversity-preservation efforts as well as a special show that combines magic with easy-to-understand biodiversity education. Additionally, during the conference Fujitsu will help promote private-sector initiatives for the preservation of biodiversity as part of its activities for the Business and Biodiversity Initiative, to which it became a signatory in May 2008.

In October 2009, the Fujitsu Group established its own biodiversity action principles, in which "contributing to the promotion of biodiversity throughout society" was listed as a priority measure. In accordance with its biodiversity action principles, Fujitsu will actively take part in a wide variety of events alongside COP10.

Overview of Events

  1. Interactive Fair for Biodiversity Forum (free admission, no advance registration required)

    3. Venue: Nagoya Gakuin University Gymnasium, Meeting Room 1
    4. Fujitsu's planned program of presentations:
      Theme 1: Fujitsu's initiatives to preserve biodiversity
      Theme 2: Ecosystem analysis using mobile photo system
      Theme 3: Biodiversity as viewed through the dandelion (Lecture by Professor Mikio Watanabe of Aichi University of Education)
      Theme 4: Fujitsu's efforts to conserve the natural environment (tropical rainforest regeneration, forest preservation)
  2. Interactive Fair for Biodiversity Stage (free admission, no advance registration required)

    2. Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (both days)
    3. Venue: Atsuta Jingu Park, Exchange Stage
    4. Fujitsu's planned event: "What is biodiversity?" biodiversity magic show
  3. Activities through biodiversity-related organizations
    Fujitsu will take part in a variety of events alongside COP10 through its membership in biodiversity-related organizations.

    • At the 9th Conference of the Parties (COP9) in May 2008, the Business and Biodiversity Initiative was created and Fujitsu became a signatory to the initiative. See http://www.business-and-biodiversity.de/
      Planned Activities:
      The biodiversity preservation efforts of the 41 signatories of the Business and Biodiversity Initiative will be introduced at an exhibition booth in Shirotori Park during the Interactive Fair for Biodiversity. In addition, on October 27-28, as a side event to the COP10 conference, case studies from the initiative and related best practices will be introduced at the Nagoya Congress Center. On October 21, biodiversity efforts being undertaken by 10 Japanese signatories to the initiative will be introduced at the Interactive Fair for Biodiversity Forum, held at Nagoya Gakuin University Gymnasium.

      Planned Activities:
      Efforts under this initiative will be introduced at an exhibition booth in Shirotori Park during the Interactive Fair for Biodiversity.
